"This business came out, analyzed what my problem really was and recommended I use an A/C company to resolve it. He was very professional and thorough in his review of the problem. I plan to use him again when other plumbing issues come up. He did all of this as part of providing me with a free estimate of the cost of repairs."

"Justine from Prostar was very knowledgeable and professional. She gave us great price options and followed up after the installation to be sure we were happy. They were on time and did a great job! The technician thoroughly explained what they were doing and how long it would take. We had several quotes/options, but Prostar Water definitely provided the best product and service for the money!"

"I have used Legend Plumbing in the past and they are terrific. They have great hours, weekends as well, and their plumbers are very skilled, nice to work with, and very neat. I needed a new hot water heater because mine had seen better days. I was able to set an appointment on a Saturday. Mario was the plumber. He was able to install a new water heater. I highly recommend Legend Plumbing and I will use them again."

"I used them, they were on time, I had no issues.  I didn't need any service, though; it was on the water company's part.  They did come out; it was actually like two in the morning that somebody did come out, but it was on the water company's part so they didn't have to do any work.  They're pretty honest, so it was good.  I got charged nothing at all, whatsoever.  It was pretty good."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Any item that can hold on to moisture and encourage mold growth should be discarded and replaced following water damage. Upholstered items, such as armchairs and couches, and soft items, such as mattresses, usually must be thrown away once they've taken on a lot of water. Soft furniture is difficult to dry out, creating an inviting environment for mold.

You may also need to replace hardwood furniture following water damage if you're unable to fully dry it out. If you have appliances and electronics that have been fully submerged in water, particularly sewage, you'll need to replace those, too.

The average cost to replace a water heater is around $1,325, with a typical range of $900 to $1,800 for a standard replacement. The final price depends on the type of heater (tank vs. tankless), its size, fuel source (gas or electric), and the complexity of the installation. A simple one-to-one replacement will be on the lower end of the cost spectrum. However, if you are switching from one type of heater or energy source to another, you can expect labor costs to be significantly higher due to the extra work involved. It's also worth considering that while gas and electric heaters may have similar upfront costs, their long-term operating costs can differ based on local utility prices.

Yes, hybrid water heaters can be noisy — noisier than traditional water heaters. The sound they produce is often compared to the hum of a dishwasher. Its noise comes from the heat pump’s fan and compressor as they work to pull in and compress the air. While it’s not totally disruptive, especially if the unit is installed in less frequented areas, like a basement or garage, it’s something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to noise or if the unit will be placed near bedrooms or living spaces.

No state requires you to vent an electric water heater. Other installation requirements for water heaters will vary, though, depending on the state and local jurisdiction in which you live. Some places require permits, while others don’t. Some may force you to place the appliance a certain distance from any walls or other appliances, while others don't. When you find a local professional to install a water heater, this expert will ensure you follow all the local regulations.

While a water heater explosion is rare, it is a serious danger. Be aware of these critical warning signs:

  • Sulfur or Rotten Egg Smell: This is a major red flag, especially for gas water heaters. It can indicate a gas leak, which could ignite and cause an explosion.

  • Leaking Pressure Valve: If the temperature and pressure (T&P) relief valve is leaking, it may not be able to properly regulate internal pressure, creating a risk of bursting.

  • Shaking or Rumbling: Loud rumbling or shaking from the tank can be a sign of extreme pressure buildup.

  • Excessive Heat: If the exterior of the water heater feels unusually hot to the touch, the unit may be overheating dangerously.

  • Rust-Colored Water: This can be a symptom of severe internal corrosion that compromises the tank's integrity.

If you notice any of these signs, especially a gas smell, you must act immediately. Shut off the gas supply to the water heater and call a professional plumber right away to prevent a potential disaster.
