"I originally called for a gas fireplace repair. When Scott first came out, he checked all the gas lines inside my home for leaks. He found one in the attic to my home's furnace. The connection was so loose that he didn't even need a tool to disconnect it! I went up in the attic with him and saw him test it with his machine. I am so glad that he checked it because who knows how long that could have leaked or even caused a fire. I also hired him to repair the gas fireplace which was admittedly more than I anticipated in cost, but I also realize that not a whole lot of companies do the work and he was fair with his pricing considering the amount of time he put in. He also added finishing touches such as colored glass pellets and fake ashes. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the service and would definitely hire him again for any repairs I may need on the fireplace, AC or furnace. I would also recommend him highly! I learned a lot while he was here and will definitely be putting the fireplace to good use now that I know how cheap it is to run!"

"We initially were having problems with our water softener so we went to Angie's List and called Texas Water Solutions to check on a possible problem with our water softener.  They came out and were able to provide service by testing our whole-house water which passed with flying colors.  Since our water softner was a culligan product, the tech suggested calling culligan to look at the system.  Texas Water Solutions provided a FREE water testing and did not charge us for the service fee.  Definitely a recommended company to use.

"I was totally impressed. They first came several days ago and look at my issues, then repaired my drywall. I had three companies from Angie's List and I contacted them, but on two of them get back to me then I pick Paul's Drywall. My contact with them was total satisfactory."

"It went really well, better than expected. Mr. King was great to work with as he provided me several options for water proofing (for the future) and he installed a sump pump which is what I needed as the first step. He was on time, cleaned up after the job was done (and during) and wanted to make sure we were very happy with his work. I waited to do a review because I wanted to see how the sump pump worked after rain. We have had a couple of good rain events since it was installed and we heard it working and doing its job. The unit is a little loud, but knowing it is working and moving the water out of the crawlspace is all that matters to me."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Yes, drywall mud can get moldy—though the presence of moisture is required for this to happen. That’s why the best way to keep your powdered drywall mud fresh for as long as possible is to keep it in dry storage conditions. If you live in a humid area, it might not make sense to stockpile a lot of powdered drywall mud before you’re ready to use it. As for premixed drywall mud, avoid opening the container until you’re ready to use it—and don’t expect it to last longer than six months.

Frequently, fungi have a gray color with a powdery or fuzzy texture on a wall. In showers, fungi and mildew may resemble a pink slime. Meanwhile, toxic mold may resemble a fuzzy growth on walls that’s often black or green in color. Some toxic black mold will have specks of orange or white on it. However, not all dark-colored mold you find on a wall is toxic. An infestation of toxic mold often will spread faster than fungi on walls. If you are unsure whether you have toxic mold, reach out to a professional for help.

If you have mold under your vinyl flooring, it’s recommended that you have it ripped out and start fresh. Mold isn’t something to take lightly and should involve a visit from a professional who can both test and identify the mold. If you’re determined to remedy it yourself, wear all the proper protective equipment—eye goggles, a high N-rated mask, and long, disposable gloves.

Mold on windows forms due to excess moisture from condensation, poor ventilation, or leaks. Cold glass surfaces can attract condensation, especially in winter. High indoor humidity, lack of airflow, or dust accumulation are also contributors. To prevent mold growth, improve ventilation, regularly clean sills, and consider using a dehumidifier or sealing any leaks.

Mold is not guaranteed to grow on wet drywall, but the risk increases significantly the longer the material remains wet. Mold and mildew can begin to grow in as little as 24 to 48 hours, especially in optimal conditions, which include moist, dark places with temperatures between 77 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. If the drywall is too wet to dry within that timeframe, mold can grow and spread. In any instance of water damage, it is wise to get a mold inspection to be certain that none has taken up residence in your home.
