"They were quick and efficient putting the cap back on my chimney. Inspected the inside after removing an insert that I’ve been wanting gone for two years. Gave me a quote on cleaning the fireplace and chimney and relining it which I will have them do later this year. Then I’ll have a working fireplace this winter. 😃👍"

"Dennis (and Ross, the man he had working for him/ with him, )were just what we wanted. Professional, honest, and hard working. The agreed upon repairs to our patio and outdoor fireplace project turned out great. Dennis listened to our ideas and gently led us in the right direction when we had our own opinions. Later, looking at the finished product, I’m so glad we listened to him. The grout color I had offered would have NEVER looked right. We are very pleased. The price he quoted for the work he did felt right. He didn’t price gouge, even in this economy. We would highly recommend."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

The cost to clean and inspect an oil-fired chimney generally ranges from $150 to $500. The price is influenced by factors such as the chimney's height, the level of soot buildup, local labor costs, and whether any additional repairs or liner replacements are required.

They provide excellent heat retention and durability and add a classic aesthetic to a home.

Hardwoods such as oak, maple, and hickory are the best types of wood to burn in a wood stove. These woods burn hotter and longer than softwoods, producing less creosote and fewer emissions. Hardwoods provide a more efficient and cleaner burn, which helps maintain better air quality and reduces the frequency of cleaning and maintenance required for your stove.

A properly constructed and maintained chimney crown can last 50 to 75 years. However, its lifespan can be significantly shorter—20 years or less—if it was poorly constructed, improperly installed, or damaged. Factors like using the wrong materials or failing to prepare the brick around the flue can lead to moisture buildup and premature breakdown, potentially resulting in a more costly rebuild.

A chimney liner isn’t required for an outdoor fireplace; you don’t technically need one if the masonry chimney uses the proper dimensions and is built to code. However, a chimney liner does serve as a protective coating for the flue. Adding a liner could improve performance, safety, and durability. In short, while not necessary, it wouldn’t hurt.
