Small jobs welcome

"We've had Wally out twice and he did a great job! He finished up a bathroom remodel - patched drywall, fixed door trim, painted and hung big mirrors.  He also sealed the grout in our shower that our tile guy (from another business) had made a complete mess of.  The second visit, he fixed some crown molding trim on our cabinets and re-build and re-hung the door to our shed.  We definitely plan on having him back to complete more work.  Wally is great!!  He was on-time and able to complete a whole bunch of different tasks to really improve how our house looks and works.  So much better than having individual contractors who can only do one kind of work.  Worth every penny!!

"I called Alarm Protection Group AFTER my office was burglarized. Now I feel SAFE. William is great to work with. He's neat and tidy, prompt, presentable - not a butt-crack type of guy, and he doesn't leave a mess in his wake. He's also knowledgeable about the equipment and only uses high-quality products."

"I was locked out of my house. It was cold and windy. Cobra Locksmith got here in 20 minutes. And I was back in my house 5 minutes later. For a very good price too. I was impressed by the whole thing."

"Walter and Glen at Protect Your Home Group with ADT are the best people to talk to in terms of security alarm. Being a locksmith myself I know how important it is to deal with the right people. I referred a lot of customers to them and so far they are happy with their service. I myself got one for my house. Thank you for a consistent service and great deal."

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Several types of deadbolts are available, including single-cylinder, double-cylinder, rim, smart, and electronic deadbolt locks. The most common type found in U.S. homes is the single-cylinder deadbolt, which uses a key on the exterior and a thumb turn on the interior. A double-cylinder deadbolt features two locking mechanisms and requires a key to be operated from both the inside and the outside.

It’s possible, but depends on the design of your lock. Some door locks that lack a keyhole do boast a small hole on the exterior handle or knob. This hole’s primary function is to allow water to drain out of the lock, in addition to giving homeowners an easy spot to insert lubrication. However, you can typically use a paperclip in this pinhole to unlock the door by manipulating the mechanism inside.

Door locks should be changed roughly every seven years. The average lifespan of a door lock is seven to 10 years, so it’s best to err on the side of caution and change them early, especially if they are showing signs of wear and tear. Examples of deterioration include visible rust and difficulty opening or closing the door. Some locks can work safely beyond 10 years, but it depends on how often they are used and whether they are exposed to damaging environmental conditions like precipitation or extreme temperatures.

You might assume that having two locks on one door will offer more protection than only one lock, but there may not be an advantage. While there’s nothing wrong with having two locks if you feel it’s best for your living situation, rest assured having one high-quality deadbolt installed correctly will offer a high level of protection.

The good news is that, yes, you can change locks yourself. Many people find it’s an easy DIY project that requires few tools and not much expense (depending on which lock you’re installing). If you have trouble with any part of an installation, you can always call a locksmith to help finish installing them.
