I replaced/repaired the sheetrock prior to installation except for one area that was left open to the studs. The old configuration had a built up shelf between the sink and the kitchen windows so the sales representative and the installer advised me not to sheetrock this area. We were not going to build another shelf here. They explained they would need to nail wood into the studs to form a support for the quartz. The installer took measurements before and after the demolition. This was my first experience with any type of remodeling. During the entire process, the sales rep and installer arrived when they said they would. On the day of installation, the first problem occurred when the installers pulled out the gas range and broke the gas line. We had to call the gas company, evacuate the house, and all work stopped for about two hours until this was repaired. The installer then said that we (as the owners) should have pulled all appliances away from the wall but no one communicated this to us beforehand. I began noticing things that didn't seem quite right. The countertop "bounced" in some areas; it butted up next to the studs in the corner; in some places they cut the sheetrock that I installed and they pushed the countertop next to the studs; a piece of my cabinet next to the stove was broken off and they glued it back in place; they braced the undermount sink with 2x4s on either side (this was very unsightly); and the fold-out drawer in front of my sink was no longer usable because the sink was too close to the edge of the counters. I called the sales rep about my concerns and he said the installer could fix everything I mentioned. I didn't see how they were going to fix the problem with the fold-out drawer without recutting quartz, but I wanted to give them the chance to fix everything. I asked him to come look at the complaints but he declined saying it was the installer who would resolve the issues. The installer came to fix everything and made a huge mess. They removed the 2x4s under the sink but used thinner wood on either side of the sink that was jammed up to the top of the sink. This busted open the back part of the cabinet under the sink. The broken cabinet next to the range that they had previously glued back was now a gaping hole. They put more shims under the areas that bounced. When they sawed the quartz to make it fit better, they didn't seal off the work area and there was a huge cloud of dust that settled upon everything in my house. This was not just a little bit of sawing and we had to go outside to keep from breathing the silt. This has been a major house-cleaning project. However, the straw that broke the camel's back is that they could not fix the sink area so I could still use the fold-out drawer. The installer and I discussed that the only way this could be resolved was if the quartz was removed and another piece recut. He said that wasn't going to happen so I called the sales rep again. In trying to resolve these issues, the sales rep kept pushing me off on the installer. I didn't think this was very professional because my arrangement was with the sales rep and not the installer and the installer worked for the sales rep, not me. The sales rep still didn't see the need to come look at my issues but finally agreed. When he came, I told him to just take everything out and refund all of my money. He agreed to this and said it was clear he was not going to be able to please me. This comment offended me since it didn't take into consideration the quality (or lack of quality) of their work. To them I was apparently just being unreasonable. The installer arrived at the appointed time to take everything out. I then noticed they had cut the cabinet while installing the undermount sink. While I understand this was necessary in order to get the sink in, there was no communication about this beforehand. This was an issue that had to be fixed when a different company installed the new countertops and sink after them. I also noticed that they had not braced the countertop in the corner as they said they would. The new installer said this was a serious issue in that the countertop was not very stable at that point and could have broken easily. At some point, the sales rep asked if I would consider leaving everything in place and just pay the cost of materials. I told him this was an issue about the quality of the work and not the money. I subsequently received a full refund after about three weeks. The two who came out kept me informed of what they were doing as they were doing it and when we needed to add electric they worked with our electrician that very same day. Even though the wrong furnace (a gas one) was delivered they completed as much work as they could on the outside and on the following work day completed the whole job, except for the one grill they agreed to add. I'm still waiting on it. The delay in installing the furnace was fine with me as it gave me time to put a fresh coat of paint in the closet! When they were finished they cleaned everything up and David explained everything to me, also showing me how to use the new thermostat. I would recommend them to my friends and family. We had a little trouble with the thermostat (it seemed to have a problem registering ambient temperature) and AB&B came out twice at no charge to inspect and replace the thermostat. Our utility bills have been reduced by at least $60-$70 a month during the summer since installing the new unit. We have been keeping the house cooler (76* vs 78*) so the savings are on top of cooler temperatures in the house And that is really nice when the outside temps are bustin' 100* with sad regularity. The heating is difficult to determine as I piped propane into the house and use gas heat during the winter. We use the heat strip to keep the house temperature at 68* during the night and use the gas during the day.
We did have a problem late yesterday, 07/13/2011, when the compressor would not cycle on. I called AB&B at 8:30 at night and a technician arrived at 9:00 to check things out. There happened to be a screw on the factory side of the compressor power contactor that had worked itself loose and the compressor was overheating. He cooled the unit down, checked the refrigerant, tightened all the connections, reset all the controllers, and the unit fired back up and is doing fine. I did electrical service work for a few years and, believe me, no one wants to make service calls at 9:00 at night. AB&B did and fixed the problem. I have developed an almost paranoid distrust of service companies, who seem to come out and take your money and deliver little in return. I have learned to do most everything myself, therefore I know who to call or cuss if something isn't done right. However, HVAC is one field I have not attempted to learn. I am glad to have called AB&B when we decided to install a new A/C unit. Their service has been excellent, their work has been trouble free (the problems have been factory related) and, if given the need, I would call them again with no hesitation. I was directed to Cen-Tex via the Carrier website, so gave them a call. The woman that took my call was very cheerful and helpful. First she mentioned they have a service contract you can purchase that gives you two checks a year plus a discount on replairs and parts. I haven't signed up for that yet but intend to. So we scheduled the tech to come out, which he did and was on time. He looked over the system and discovered it was over a pound low on refrigerant. He was concerned since they have no history servicing the equipment and suspected a possible leak. I told him the company who installed it when my house was built, was not certified by Carrier so I was not certain it was at a proper charge to begin with. So he corrected the charge and charged me for the gas. There was even another tech stopped by to make sure everything was going okay and to see if the tech needed help. He also made sure to introduce himself and shook my hand. He then went upstairs to check the furnace/air handler. He said everything looked fine up there. I asked him about room air balance and suggested I call the office to schedule a specialist to check that, I haven't done that yet. He signed off and left, and I could tell right away the system worked better. Then about a month later I discovered an oversight. He had removed both of my media filters while checking out the system and forgot to re-install them, so my system had been running without filters for a month. They are in the attic so is why I didn't notice for a while. I called the office, and they didn't try to make excuses, they right away apologized and had the manager call me. He told me they were going to come out and do a free coil cleaning, plus installed two brand new honeywell filters (about $30.00 each), free of charge..Anyone can make a human error but they made good on it and quickly. "Spent about 5 months calling various contractors (6) for a simple "L" shape outdoor kitchen. Received quotes ranging from 12K-25K with the average being about 15K. I called Ember and was quoted less than 7K for building material and labor. Needless to say, I went went Ember and was extremely happy with the service. Project took 2.5 days. Crew showed up when they said they would and performed work with no issues. Throughout the project, they ensured they kept the patio clean, always sweeping dust and rocks created from the project. Dwayne was very responsive to text/emails and answered any questions I had. I was very please with Ember Outdoor Kitchens and would recommend them to anyone."

"I contracted Andy Kalnasy from Q4U Outdoorz grill to repair the ignition system in my DCS 30" gas grill. Andy charges $60 cash for the grill evaluation and then will send you a summary of the parts and labor needed for the repair. I received his summary of the parts and labor cost ($489.70) to repair the ignition system for a grand total of $547.70. I approved the repair cost and Andy returned a week or so later and completed the repair. I told Andy I wanted to put the $489.70 on a credit card (which they accept per their website) but he asked me if I could write a check instead, which I did. The second time I tried to light my grill there was NO spark coming from the ignition module. I replaced the battery to make sure that wasn't the problem, which it wasn't. So, I emailed Andy and asked him to return to my home to look at the grill, to which he said NO. He indicated he did not replace the ignition button or module and that was probably the problem. He wanted another $150/per hr. to look at my grill again. I asked him if he guaranteed his work to which he indicated "only the parts I replaced". I tried to stop payment of the check but of course he cashed it the very same day, knowing I could have contested a charge on my credit card. So, be aware of this guy and his business practices. Charging someone almost $600 to fix the ignition system and not replacing the ignition button or module is unacceptable! I would strongly recommend NOT using this guy or company."

Gas Logs questions, answered by experts
If you think your home might be experiencing a gas leak, you should immediately leave your home and call a professional natural gas line plumber for assistance. Natural gas is dangerous and highly flammable, so you shouldn’t stay inside your home if you think there might be a gas leak.
Shut-off valves, like any other piece of metal hardware, can corrode, age, get worn down, and eventually break or rust into place. Occasionally spray your shut-off valve with WD-40 to stall it from rusting. If it really gets stuck, a wrench and WD-40 will usually do the trick, but you will need to call a plumber if it’s completely unmovable.
Yes. There are a variety of standard pipe sizes used in plumbing. The main supply line connecting your home to the street is either 3/4 or 1 inch in diameter. Supply lines are 3/4 inch in diameter. Individual components are 1/2 inch in diameter. Meanwhile, your main drainpipe is often 4 inches wide. Most shower and bathtub drains are 2 inches in diameter, most toilet drains are 3 inches in diameter, and most sink drainpipes are 1 1/4 or 1 ½ inches in diameter.
Fixing a gas leak can take anywhere from one to 24 hours, depending on the location and magnitude of the problem. A gas line specialist or gas plumber should be able to give you an estimated time to completion once they evaluate the situation. If your city’s utility company works to fix a gas leak, it will likely have information available about the anticipated time for gas service to be restored.
The easiest way to empty a propane tank is to simply use it until no propane remains. If you’re short on time and need a faster solution, transfer the propane to another tank instead. Wear leather gloves to protect your hands, then connect the hoses from both propane tanks and seal them tightly. Turn the knob to open the supply tank valve on the full tank and let it run until the pressure pushes all the propane into the other tank. When all propane is transferred, remove the hose and seal each tank.
