"It started out good. In the beginning he was very helpful to me. I thought we had a pretty good working relationship. There were a couple of initial hiccups due to my flooring and granite contractor that caused him a couple of days delay. We had a 4-week contract requiring 4 weekly payments which I complied with; shortly after I paid the 4th payment he became very sick. Yes, it was my fault for making this last payment before he was finished but he had stated that he would be finished the next week and then his health issues took over and this stretched out to 2 months of me waiting for the work he started to be finished. Since I had paid him I was willing to give him time to come back. I thought I was very patient, at least for 2 months but his behavior started changing later in December and January. When he attempted to come back to work after 2 mths he hung 2 fans & a light and he then he requested 3/4s of the payment for a change he completed in September and then the next day he proceeded to remove all his tools and equipment from my house. I saw this on my security camera. When I called him about it he said he would come back the next day to work. The next day I was contacted by his girlfriend saying he had a relapse the night before and was back in the hospital. So after not hearing from him for over a week I tried reaching him but didn't get response so I contacted his girlfriend. That's when the no shows started happening. Several times he told me he would come and then would not show up and not contact me. There would be spans of a week or more before I would get responses from him and continued no shows. This man has left me with several thousand dollars of unfinished work that I am having to pay others to complete; I haven't had a master bathroom & closet or fireplace to use since early September; although I have requested them and he says he has them, he hasn't provided me with the receipts for the materials he bought with my money. I don't know if he under spent or overspent. The last time he came to the house in mid January at this advice of my attorney, I left him a written memo of the work status and items that needed correcting, brought up his lack of showing up when he said he would, not keeping me informed, giving the appearance of pulling out of the job and my stress over with the lack of progress after waiting 2 months for his return. His response was to walk off the job. He sent me a message that he understood my frustration and that we needed to discuss things. I made several attempts over the next 2 days to contact him in various ways so we could discuss but I believe he has me blocked and I haven't heard from him since Jan 14th. I'm writing this on Mar 1. I even cleaned up after him. I was left with heavy construction materials in the house and in my driveway that couldn't stay there indefinitely. I performed part of his contact. This constitutes theft of money for services not performed. Unfortunately, he has left me with no alternative but to file a suit against him for return of my money. Also he never provided proof of insurance as I requested several times. I regret hiring Mr. Vaughn."

FAQs for window service projects in Houston, TX

If you have a problem with your window, such as broken glass, minor leaks, or a problem with your window being stuck, repairing the broken part might be a cheaper option than replacing the entire window. However, if you have a deteriorating window frame or major leaks, buying a new window will be the better long-term solution.

Window replacement can become costly, especially if you’re replacing your whole home. There are a few steps you can take to help save money on the bottom cost while still giving your windows a facelift.

  • Replace multiple windows at once to bundle your purchase

  • Inquire about discounts, coupons, or special offers

  • Consider window repair as soon as you see damage to help prevent the need for replacement

  • Maintain your windows often by inspecting your windows for drafts, leaks, and cracks

There are certain window repairs that are cost-effective to DIY and relatively simple for homeowners to tackle themselves. Tasks like replacing a screen, replacing a lock, or sealing a window are typically under $30 and take minimal time to do yourself. However, if you need to replace your window or repair a broken double pane, it’s best to call in a professional window replacement installer to lend a hand. Replacing the majority or all of the windows in your home is a time consuming job and best left to a professional.

Window replacement costs between $180 and $410 per window, or an average of $280 per window. However, your specific replacement job could cost as little as $100 or as much as $750. Factors such as frame material, the number of windows you need, and the type of glass you order all impact the overall cost. For example, simple double-glazed windows will cost $3 to $6 per square foot, but the stronger tempered glass ranges from $12 to $14 per square foot.

The time it takes to replace a window is a total of four to 15 weeks. This time includes your initial consultation, appointments for measuring, as well as ordering and manufacturing your windows. For a smaller job, you can expect the total timeline to be on the shorter end, but for a whole house window replacement, it might take longer (or be split into multiple install appointments). Once your windows are created and ready to be installed, your window installer will take 30 to 60 minutes per window to install.
