"John and Mike were great to work with. We hired JFB to do an 8x12 concrete patio extension for our home. Pros: Mike who came to quote the project was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain the options, the process, and answer my detailed questions. He was very responsive as well on text/calls as we were setting up the scheduling and the post-pour process. John was already great to communicate with about scheduling and was on-site day of to talk us through what would happen and aftercare of the concrete. John's crew was also quite efficient. They had one day for setting up the forms and prepping the ground, and another day for the pour. Cons: My only disappointment on the project was the trash left behind. The crew dumped a huge mass of of leftover concrete in the greenbelt area behind my house and left trash and more small chunks of concrete in my backyard. However, when I texted John about this issue, he apologized and made sure to send someone to clean it all up and take it off my property ASAP. Overall, barring the cleanup issue, I was satisfied with JFB Concrete and would recommend them."

"We are writing our review out of the sheer appreciation and gratitude that we have for the Hercules Foundation Repair and Remodeling professionals. At our 1920â s home on the Southside of San Antonio, we have always struggled with our foundation ( pier and beam ) and over the past 20 years we have had numerous foundation companies try their hand at trying to â GET IT RIGHTâ ! This is until we called and hired Hercules Foundation Repair and Remodeling. The Hercules Team: Allen, Justin and Felix were impressive in their assessment of determining exactly what the issue has been over the years and how best to tackle it head on! We felt reassured after our initial meeting with them and found that our estimate for the project was reasonable. We were very relieved to know that we had found a foundation company that knew what they were doing and stood by their warranty! During this time, we were in the process of renovating our home and to begin the work we needed, our foundation had to be perfect so that our other renovation projects would stand on the work completed by Hercules. The day of the job, Felix came in with his crew and explained all that was going to be done to address our foundation issues and the entire project was done in two days working all day each day while keeping us posted on the ins and outs of the project. As customers, new to Hercules, we felt like we had finally found the competent professionals that would save us thousands of dollars in years to come. As we discussed it, we realized that we had spent well over $30,000 in foundation work over the years since 1994 (year of purchase) and we were still in the same situation... that is, until we started our working relationship with HERCULES! We were pleased with the work. After the crew left, we went under the house to see what all they had done and were so happy to see the thoroughness of the work and even more impressive was the cleanliness they left our home both under and around the work area. In our experience with renovations and repairs, we have had our share of messy contractors who cut corners and HERCULES in not one of them! A few weeks after the work was completed, and with the continued rain we were having this summer in San Antonio, we worried about the original issue of rain/water going under our home and possibly effecting the work. We called Allen and explained our worry and he immediately scheduled a time to come to the home himself to make sure that his companies work was holding up. While here, Allen made some additional suggestions to ensure that we would not have to ever worry again about drainage no matter what kind of rain we received, at which point we decided on a French Drain. Allen immediately made calls to the office and to his foreman Felix to schedule us as soon as possible for the French Drain. We were comforted to know that this additional measure, that we mutually agreed upon, would reinforce what we had already done to the foundation of our home and save us money over time! Thanks Allen. My husband and I found it important to take the time to share our experience with others and support this exceptional company of professionals on a job well done! It is our hope to build a home one day in the near future and we know that when that time comes, there will be only one person I will call for our foundation work â Allen at Hercules Foundation Repair and Remodeling! Seth and Angela Sampson"

"Overall happy with the project. Didn't like the masonry work, as spaces between border rocks was different sizes & too large. Price was a bit high but they are reliable. Showed up as scheduled & finished the job on time."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Yes, limewash on brick can accumulate dust over time. Its porous nature can attract dust particles, especially in environments with high levels of dust or dirt. Additionally, if the limewash surface is left unsealed, it may be more prone to collecting dust. Additionally, incorrectly applied limewash will generate dust. Causes include applying it too thickly instead of thin layers and not allowing enough drying time between layers. Regular maintenance, such as gentle cleaning or dusting, can help mitigate dusty issues.

A traditional German schmear uses mortar, making it unsuitable for adherence to painted surfaces. Professionals recommend removing any existing paint before applying mortar. However, you can rough up the painted surface and clean it to test if the mortar will stick. Remember that the underlying paint's texture and color may affect the schmear's final appearance—so starting with a bare brick wall will ensure the ideal finish.

Yes, but used or reclaimed bricks can be more brittle, cracked, or uneven than new bricks, so they’re harder to cut cleanly by hand. For that reason, you should take extra care when scoring and striking, and expect a higher chance of breakage. If a brick feels especially fragile, score deeper before attempting to split it.

You can hang holiday lights on brick without drilling by using hot glue, outdoor tape, or brick clips for your project. There are plenty of alternatives to consider, so consult a professional Christmas light installer to discuss the best options to preserve your brick exterior.

Not all cracks in brick indicate foundation problems. For instance, small hairline cracks can occur as a new construction settles. However, larger cracks are often a sign of a more severe issue. Indicators of a potential foundation problem include long horizontal cracks, "stair-step" cracks, vertical cracks that appear indoors, or any crack that widens at the top. Other signs of structural damage to look for are uneven floors and doors or windows that stick. These issues could be caused by problems with the soil beneath the home or an overgrown tree.
