I owned a construction company for 32 years and I retired a couple of years ago and I have done all the repairs around my house and got kinda board so I have started doing handyman jobs and I can do just about anything that has to do with construction. Remodeling and new construction . I have a fairly new Ford f-250 and a 16 ft trailer for carrying materials for jobs if needed. I take pride in the work that I do and strive to do a professional job.

"Michelle at Premier did a great job of educating me on how to care for my 20+-year-old leather coat, on what needed to be done to renew it, and cleaned it so it was almost like new. She also took over cleaning a fine Italian wool jacket I sent her, and even found buttons to replace ones on the sleeve that had fallen off She's professional, prompt, and gets the job done! I have no worries when I send my clothes to her in Calif from Wyoming (because we have no comparable specialty cleaners here)."

"I purchased a "deal of the day" for a quality table top pad for our formal dining room table.  The supplier acknowledge via email with in 48 hours and confirmed my contact information.  They mailed me a kit to pick out my finish and backing of the pad.  The kit also included detailed but simple procedures for measuring and making an etching of the table.  My table is rectangular, so I didn't have to make an etching, but it would be simple to do on any corners, rounded or otherwise.  The pad arrived at the home earlier than we expected and exactly as described and ordered.

"I purchased the coupon listed in late January 2014. He was very punctual and sent me a message through Angie's List that I needed to call to set up a pick up time and discuss what needs to be done. He came to look at the pieces I had and we discussed what needed to be done: the bed fame painted black without any distressing, and the crack in the wooden chair needed to be fixed, the seat springs corrected and the seat needed to be reupholstered. He told me that I would need to have the chair painted or the repair of the crack in the wood would be visible. I agreed and asked him to paint it off white. He told me the price for each item, and collected my furniture and fabric for the chair. His reviews before I purchased were great, so i didnt question the high cost, and since i had already purchased the coupon and he was standing in my garage, I let him take my things. The discount helped with the overall price a lot and he does pick up and deliver the furniture himself. He told me they would be ready in two weeks.
Two weeks went by and I didn't hear anything. I called and left a message, and he returned my call promptly and said they would be ready in one week. He then asked to describe what furniture I gave him and I described the bed and chair. "Oh, you wanted the chair painted?" he said. "Yes. That's what we discussed," I said. I'm looking at the catbon copy of the receipt he wrote up before he took my furniture away, and it says "1 Chair off White."
When the furniture arrived about 10 days later (I couldn't accept delivery until then), it looked good at first glance. The bed really does look professionally done. I thanked him and paid him and he left. On closer inspection of the chair, I realized that he used a paint sprayer to paint the chair AFTER the upholstery work was done. The wood of the chair has some detail and it is now quite clear that he missed several deeper spots. Additionally, the piping of the upholstery work is not well done and the seat is a bit uncomfortable. The seat still sags below the bottom of the chair and he didn't cover the upholstery webbing under the seat with a dustcover. Ive never had a piece reupholsterd that didn't have the dust cover on the underside. They even put at stuff on boxsprings. I have had several furniture pieces in my home done before with much much better workmanship. Unfortunately, that upholsterer is in Dallas or I would have used him instead.
I should have looked over the chair much more carefully before I accepted it and paid him, but at his prices, it really should have been almost perfect and if you cant do it right the first time, why would i give it back to you? Now I will have to touch up the chair and find dust cover to put over the webbing he left exposed. I don't know if he just put too much on his plate with the coupon, or if his work is always this shoddy, or if I'm expecting too much because my previous upholsterer was very very good.
He seems like a nice guy, but based on the chair, I cannot recommend him to anyone else for professional upholstery work. For the bed he gets an "A", but for the chair, he gets a "D" so I averaged the quality out to a "C+" Overall, I'm giving him a "C" because quality is everything.

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Paper moving pads, also called furniture wrapping paper or paper moving blankets, are sheets of recycled paper used to protect various items during moving. Similar to traditional moving blankets, paper pads are also reusable, making them a sustainable and cost-effective option for protecting your belongings during the moving process. Although they’re recycled, they still provide excellent protection against dust, dirt, and scratches.

The time required to reupholster furniture depends on the item's size, complexity, and condition. The hands-on work can range from 2-3 hours for a simple dining chair to 10 to 20 hours for a large sofa. The total project timeline with a professional, including fabric sourcing and scheduling, typically ranges from one to three weeks.

Several factors can affect the timeline. Antique furniture often takes longer due to the delicate care required. If additional repairs are needed, such as sanding or refinishing wood components, the process will also take more time. A DIY reupholstery project will usually take significantly longer than a professional job.

Paying to reupholster a piece of furniture means you want to hire the right upholstery service, especially for a piece that’s expensive or carries a lot of sentimental value. In your search for the right upholstery company, be sure to:

  • Ask around to see if friends or family know of any upholsterers

  • Find reviews of the company or individual

  • Look at the photo gallery of their work to see if they work on furniture like yours and if you like their work

  • Check qualifications and references

  • Ask the upholstery service if they work on furniture like yours, what their schedule looks like, how they handle payments, and how long the job will take

Upholstering allows personalization, extends furniture life, conserves resources, refreshes decor, and often costs less than buying new pieces.

If your usually super soft couch feels crusty and rough after cleaning, it could be that you haven’t removed the cleaning product properly, you used too much, or you applied the wrong type. Always check the couch tags to select the right cleaning product, read application instructions carefully, and test on an inconspicuous corner. For fabrics such as microfiber, you can soften and fluff crusty fibers using a soft-bristled brush.
