"The crew arrived on time to load. They took great care with our belongings. All furniture was wrapped prior to loading. We moved to another city. They arrived in a timely manner and unloaded with as much care as they did with loading. There was no damage to premises or our belongings. We were very satisfied and would use them again!"

"We had two different and separate crews for the hardwood installation and the carpet install. Carpet install was first. The two installers were good and professional. The installation went well and was done in one day. They hauled off the old carpet and cleaned up well after their work. We are quite pleased with the new carpet, its quality and the installation. Hardwood install was more involved. Took 3 days. Installers were very nice and knowledgeable about their work. The job needed more leveling compound than the standard cost allows for. However, I believe this is not unusual as this is an 8 year old, well built home. So, the need for more leveling compound than is "standard" is probably more common than you might think. After the project was begun and workers had used the "standard" amount of compound, they told me (correctly) that the floor needed 10 more bags of leveling compound. Imagine my surprise when I found out that each bag costs FIFTY DOLLARS! Workers were told by the supervising boss that they needed to collect an extra $500 from me. I felt that was not a fair way to offer an estimate of work - to give a price and then come back and try to bill for another $500. I called and spoke with the project boss who offered to lower the cost of the compound as best as he could offer. I felt that was not the fair thing as I was paying $9000 plus for the wood and carpet project. I called and spoke with the BIG BOSS (somehow) at Empire Today who agreed to allow that extra amount be included in my original cost for the project. For THAT, I commend them! But be aware - if your floor is not perfectly level (and NO concrete slabs are!), you may be slapped with extra cost for more leveling compound. The salesman that came to the house to show samples and answer questions was nice and professional and had answers to questions helping us to decide on the carpet and wood. Hopefully, he can now admonish future customers of possible cost increases for leveling needs."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

If you hire a professional to install a new floor, you can expect to pay between $50 and $75 per hour for labor. It takes two days on average to install a new floor as part of a bathroom remodeling project, but your timeline depends on your bathroom’s size and layout.

Using too much soap or floor cleaner can leave your laminate floors looking dirty or cloudy after mopping. Only use a teaspoon of soap or cleaning solution in a gallon of water. Additionally, always be sure to sweep or vacuum laminate floors before mopping to ensure you pick up dried grit, hair, and dust that can be harder to catch with a wet mop.

Whether you install flooring before or after kitchen cabinets depends primarily on the type of flooring you are using. For materials like hardwood, tile, and sheet flooring, the best practice is to install the flooring first. This ensures the cabinets are installed at the correct height and on a stable surface. However, you should not install cabinets on top of floating floors, such as laminate or luxury vinyl plank (LVP). These types of flooring need room to expand and contract with temperature and humidity changes. Placing heavy cabinets on top can restrict this movement, potentially causing the floor to buckle and making the cabinets unstable. For floating floors, install the cabinets first and then lay the flooring up to them. Other reasons to consider installing cabinets before the flooring include saving money on materials (since you won't need flooring under the cabinets) and avoiding potential damage to your new floor during cabinet installation. Additionally, installing cabinets directly on the subfloor might prevent voiding your flooring's warranty.

Carpet is an effective natural insulator, so it will make a room slightly warmer than laminate. The material’s insulating properties also make carpeted rooms more efficient for temperature regulation.

A transition piece between carpet stairs and wood flooring isn't always necessary. A transition piece separates two types of flooring in between rooms and areas, like carpet and vinyl. Because the carpet on the stairs tucks into the seam, you can’t see the fringes, and there is no need to hide anything. However, you can use a stair cap if your stairs have a nose.
