We specialize in drill-n-fill to exterior walls where no insulation exists, re-insulation of attics to increase R-value and garage door insulation kits.

"Used Affordable Insulation to blow in fiberglass insulation into attic above 3 car garage. They were quick to reply to my initial inquiry and follow up questions. Marc had the estimate to me the same day I contacted them. Their estimate was much more affordable (pun intended!) than another quote I received. I was very pleased with their number and was ready to hire them. The team of Jason, Jason, and Daniel were courteous, friendly and professional. They called ahead and showed up as scheduled. They made quick work of the job. The job came out looking great. Insulation depth was a couple inches deeper than expected so was pleased about that as well. They ensured no insulation was in the overflow drain pans of water heater or AC since that could clog the overflow drains causing them to backup. They cleaned up all excess insulation that had fallen into the garage. Attention to detail was superb. I highly recommend Affordable Insulation."

While the ideal temperature for your garage is partially based on your preferences for a comfortable garage space, you'll still want to maintain a temperature between 40 degrees and 68 degrees Fahrenheit to protect your belongings and vehicles. An insulated garage door is a great long-term investment if it’s within your budget. They save energy and give the door year-round usability. In other words, the door pays for itself after a few nasty winters. Most modern garage doors already have a fair amount of insulation, so look into those options if you don’t feel comfortable splurging.

You don’t need to remove old insulation before adding new insulation. As long as the old insulation is still in good shape—not wet, physically damaged, or moldy—then you can stack new insulation on top of old insulation to get a compounding effect. You can also mix different types of insulation, like adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batt insulation or installing rigid insulation boards over rafters in your attic that already have batt insulation installed. If your existing insulation is very old or damaged, though, you’ll likely see more benefit from removing it and replacing it instead.

Spreading tin foil over your windows works similarly to radiant barrier insulation, but not as well. It will reflect some of the sunlight that would otherwise come through the glass and warm up the inside of your home, so it might help a little to keep your home cool in the summer. However, the appearance isn’t preferable to blinds or drapes that can offer the same benefits. You might also consider tinting your windows instead, which is a more aesthetically pleasing change that can still block a good portion of the solar heat coming through your windows.
