"Tony came over 30 minutes after I posted. He went in my attic and then on the roof to access my leak. My dryer vent has the wrong cover on it on the roof which traps lint (I knew that) and makes condensation which drips into the insulation and then ruins the ceiling paint above the shower. I’ve plastered it twice. He says we’ve got hail damage and need a new roof. No charge for cleaning out the dryer vent on the roof and inspecting it."

"Excellent was taken care of in a timely manner. Very professional and they knew what was needed. I have worked with Big Sky Roofing for many years. Very dependable, professional, and honest. If the roof is in good condition, they don’t try to sell you one. They are very good at what they do."

"We made a decision to upgrade our roof project from the existing asphalt shingle roof to one using standing rib metal. There were some delays on both parties' parts (wrong color of product shipped from supplier / a decision to add a patio cover, etc.) before work was actually started but when everything finally came together it went very well"

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Roofing material costs vary depending on the type of material you choose and whether you install it yourself or hire a roofer. Shingles are the most affordable option and cost between $70 and $400 per square, metal roofing is between $100 and $1,500 per square, and concrete tile is between $300 and $1,000 per square.

A roof pitch that’s too shallow won’t shed runoff as quickly, so you have an increased risk of water intrusion through the seams between your roofing materials. In colder climates, snow and ice will accumulate more easily on your roof, which can add enough weight to cause roof collapse and structural damage to your home.

Homeowners insurance may cover the cost to tarp a roof if the type of damage falls within your coverage. For example, roof damage caused by a natural disaster may fall within your plan, and the cost of a temporary tarp may be incorporated. In general, however, simply tarping your roof for renovations will often not fall under insurance coverage.

Wood shake roofs are durable, energy-efficient, and offer a natural aesthetic. Composite options provide similar looks with less maintenance.

While there are many benefits to installing a metal roof on your home, there are some downsides, too. Zinc roofs, in particular, are susceptible to corrosion from overly salty air directly near coastal areas. Another potential downside of zinc roofing is that it must be allowed to expand and contract with the weather. This means special attention is necessary to how it's fastened to the home to avoid issues.
