"My wife and I found out that the foundation underneath our home had settled and thus pulled our PVC pipes causing them to crack in numerous places. We basically needed our entire plumbing system under the house replaced.A friend referred Legend Plumbing & Septic to us and we could not have been more fortunate to work with them. Bret and Jesse were incredibly responsive and thorough in their initial inspection, describing what needed to be done, how long it would take, etc. They kept to deadlines and performed everything as planned. No hidden costs and no hidden delays. They even arranged for any sub-contract work that was needed. They handled everything with the permits and was very thorough and professional.Jesse and Bret were patient and helpful with any questions that we had and were transparent throughout the entire process. All of the workers that replaced our pipes we punctual, professional, and courteous. This was a major job that could have caused us so many headaches, but Legend Plumbing & Septic made it very stress free for us.We highly recommend Legend Plumbing & Septic for any of your plumbing needs, especially major plumbing issues!"

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

On average, septic systems last between 15 and 20 years. However, with proper care and routine septic maintenance, you may be able to extend your septic system’s life span to 30 years (or more). Some ways to keep your system in tip-top shape include scheduling a professional inspection every two to five years and reducing the flow of wastewater into your system.

Although cesspits may be necessary depending on your main sewage system access or nearby soil quality, they carry a few drawbacks. Cesspools require regular emptying and have relatively high maintenance and pumping costs. Certain areas also disallow the use of cesspools and may require you to cover the cost of existing cesspools to be converted into septic tanks.

Signs that your well is dry include a decrease in water pressure, strange odors coming from faucets, cloudy, bubbly, or discolored water, and water that’s warmer than normal. Signs that your well pump is bad are similar, but you may also notice higher-than-average electric bills, strange clicking sounds, and faucets that spit or sputter.

A leaking well pipe is quite different from if the well itself is leaking. To seal a leaking well, pour a cement mixture or bentonite into the space between the well casing and the borehole wall. The heavier cement collects at the bottom to form a solid seal, pushing lighter materials like mud and fluids up toward the surface. Professional well installation companies have the equipment to do this properly.

The dimensions of a 500-gallon concrete septic tank can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but the tank is large enough to handle the wastewater of a small home with up to one bedroom. Keep in mind that some states have a minimum septic tank size, and this often starts at 750 gallons. A 500-gallon septic tank may be too small to meet local regulations.
