"hired this tile setter to do my bathroom and flooring, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. He was on time every day, professional throughout the job, and clearly took pride in his work. Despite working quickly, he never cut corners, the attention to detail was obvious in every line and edge. He also kept the work area clean the entire time, which made a huge difference with the mess tile work usually creates. Highly recommend him for anyone looking for quality tile work without the hassle."

"The work that was done was great! Everyone was very professional and worked with me throughout the entire process. Most importantly they stuck with the amount that was quoted. No new fees occurred! The only down side, as with any contractor, it was not completed on time. We asked it to be done by December the 18th (started in October) or wait until after the new year. It wasn't completed until March. So, plan accordingly! Bottom line, we have a beautiful bathroom that we love. 4 after pictures and 3 before:"

"Manuel was a very pleasant person with a great personality. I didn’t feel that he had the appropriate craftsmen for some of the services provided. Lighting and flooring installers did a fantastic job. The original painter/trim carpenter was very professional and did very good work. The second painter was sloppy and caused a lot of clean up to be needed. The installer for the kitchen backsplash did a poor job. The lines are crooked, and the tile is not staggered correctly. The grout used was not the correct color and rather than redo it, it was covered with acrylic paint. The pantry was to have pull out shelving. The shelves installed were to wide to be pulled out. There was extensive termite damage that was discovered. He repair was completed properly and very timely. An outlet was installed near the sink which is not GFI rated. The is something I would expect an electrician to know. The entire project was very delayed, some due to weather and some due to the many days that only one worker came to my home. Manuel did express that he had been ill for a few days but my expectation is that a good contractor would have workers that were able to perform to appropriately without him. I chose to hire other contractors to complete my job as I feel that as a business man you should be able to professionally complete a job the first time. I hope that this doesn’t happen to another individual."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Penny tile should be sealed to protect the grout from moisture and keep stains from damaging the look of the tile. If penny tile is in a humid or high-traffic area, like a bathroom, kitchen, or entryway, it needs sealant. Any type of tile and grout is best maintained with a sealant reapplied by a pro every one to two years.

No, you don’t need to remove the old grout before installing new tile over existing tile. In fact, the old grout helps fill in gaps between tiles, creating a more even surface for the new layer. However, it's important to ensure that the grout is clean, solid, and free of cracks or crumbling areas. Damaged grout should be repaired or replaced before proceeding. Cleaning the surface thoroughly and filling any low spots will help the new adhesive bond properly and ensure a smooth, stable installation.

Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.

The number of boxes of tile you need depends entirely on the amount of tile in each box or case. Different manufacturers package their tiles differently, and boxes contain different amounts of tile depending on the size, shape, and material. Often, the amount of area that a case will cover is listed in the product description. To calculate the number of boxes you need, take the total square feet of the space and divide it by the number of square feet the box will cover.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.
