"I got approximately six estimates for a conversion from swamp cooler to refridgerated air.  Louis Procter from Startech was the cheapest estimate we received, and compared to some it was a LOT cheaper.  It was such a good deal I thought it was too good to be true so I threw a barrage of questions at Louis to validate his company's reliability.  Louis is very professional and reliable.  He would always answer my calls or return my calls immediately if I missed him.  If anything goes wrong I know I can rely on him to honor his work and take care of me.  His crew was friendly and did a good job on the install and worked hard to get it finished in only a day and a half.  I would highly recommend Startech to anyone looking for heating and cooling needs.

"Albert was very helpful and made sure all went well. The workers were courteous and did the job in a timely manner. They wanted to clean up the little insulation that was on carpet but I told them I would take it. I WILL hire them again."

"MARC JONES CONSTRUCTION TEAM  ARRIVED ON SCHEDULE AND INSTALLED THE SOLAR ARRAY OVER TWO DAYS.  ON MONDAY, WE HAD INSPECTION AND A FEW DAYS LATER THE ATTIC WAS INSULATED WITH FOAM TO REDUCE HEAT LOAD ON AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM.  EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHLY EXCEPT FOR INADVERTANTLY UNPLUGGING THE SYSTEM CIRCUITBREAKER DURING THE FOAMING OPERATIO.

"The owner was knowledgable in what did. His business encludes much more than spray foam. I hired him to spray foam my 2nd level subfloor. He completely sealed that 2nd level. He met and exceeded my expectation while others I interviewed would only want to insulate my subfoor with bat insulation hung with bailing wire. Borderland was one $60 more than they were. The job he dod was superior to anything anybody else could have done and I recommend him to anyone that needs this service and the detailing services he offers like Rhino lining, Concrete and landscape spary lining. Hire him, you wont be disappointed."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You do not always need to remove old insulation before adding new. If the existing insulation is in good condition—not wet, physically damaged, moldy, or infested with pests—you can add new insulation directly on top of it for a compounding effect. You can also mix different types, such as adding blown-in insulation around existing fiberglass batts.

However, removal is recommended if the old insulation is compromised by water damage or pests. You should also remove it if you plan to install a different type of insulation, like switching from roll or batt insulation to spray foam. If the existing insulation is very old or damaged, you will likely get more benefit from removing it and starting fresh.

Closed-cell foam may come with a higher price tag, but it’s worth the investment because of its strength and durability. This material offers excellent thermal and moisture resistance, contributing to its long life span. Its construction enhances energy efficiency, which can lead to reduced heating and cooling costs over time.

In some cases, yes, insulating an unheated garage can lead to mold and mildew. The issue with insulating a garage is that the interior will warm up and cool down more slowly than the exterior air, which can cause condensation inside the space. Where there is moisture, there is likely to be mold and mildew over time. Installing a vapor barrier can help avoid moisture and mildew problems in an insulated garage.

It's essential to use insulation materials specifically designed for air ducts. Common types of duct insulation materials include fiberglass, foam board, and reflective foil. These insulation materials have the right properties to withstand the temperature and airflow conditions within the ductwork. Using the appropriate insulation not only ensures efficient temperature control but also prevents potential safety hazards or the release of harmful particles into the air.

The most affordable way to insulate a garage involves choosing cost-effective materials like fiberglass, which comes in batts or rolls and is relatively easy to install. You can often install this type of insulation without needing to add drywall, which helps reduce costs. While a DIY approach might seem cheapest, hiring a professional installer can be highly cost-effective. Experts can accurately determine your garage's specific insulation needs and ensure the best results for your investment, often using batt insulation for the bulk of the project.
