"We have used Carlos and Elite Arborist for years now. Our back yard holds one big beautiful life oak. Elite Arborist grooms and protects this tree. They go above and beyond to make our entire experience wonderful. Professional and polite, they work from the ground and from up in the tree, carefully removing only what is needed to make our tree healthy and able to handle strong storms and icy winters. They clean the yard when complete, taking and mulching all debris. We will continue to use them every time such work is needed and highly recommend Elite Arborist."

"Shawn came out and gave us a quote then we hired them for next day service. The trees were trimmed along the roof line and they were done around three hours. Perfect. The crew came in a couple times to make sure everything looked OK and did touchups as we asked. No fuss, great job cleaned up all the trimmed branches as well! Totally recommend!"

"Best tree service we have had. Torres worked with us in rescheduling around the many storms. They did great work and cleanup (including chipper/shredder). Complete job on one large and two small trees took less than 2 hours. Torres constantly communicated with us, and checked to see if we approved of steps being done."

"We hired Campos Tree Service to cut down, remove and grind the stumps of dead mature Oak Trees. We have a very wooded lot with approximately 200 post oaks, red oaks, burr oaks and elm. 15 trees in all needed to be cut down, hauled away and the stumps ground. Campos Tree Service also performed maintenance work on by cutting any dead branches off every tree on our property. I highly recommend Mr. Campos and his company. His team of workers arrived at 7AM every morning and worked hard throughout the day. Mr. Campos did everything he said he would do. When the job was finished Mr. Campos and I walked the property and discussed the work he had performed for us. The overall clean-up was better than expected. We are very glad to have hired Mr. Campos. His price quoted on the bid was the final price. Our property looks very good now with the work he did for us. We highly recommend Campos Tree Service. Arborists questions, answered by experts

Debris removal is often included in the overall cost of having a tree removed from your property. However, tree maintenance service companies do not always include debris removal in their pricing, so ask any contractors offering tree trimming cost estimates whether or not removal is included. If you want to keep the wood mulch, ask if they charge extra for it as well.

There are several methods to hollow out a tree stump, and the best one depends on your tools, experience, and priorities. Common methods include using a chisel and hammer, a chainsaw, or burning.

  • Chisel and Hammer: This is often considered the easiest approach for those with limited tools or experience, though it is the most time-consuming.

  • Chainsaw: Using a chainsaw is the fastest method, but it comes with significant safety risks, especially for inexperienced users.

  • Burning: This can be an effective method, but it is not recommended unless you can first drill holes into the stump. Without holes, the stump will be difficult to light and may not burn completely through.

A power drill with at least a ⅜-inch diameter bit can make the job quicker and easier, regardless of the primary method. While you can use a chisel or chainsaw without a drill, it will require more time and effort. Always wear protective goggles and thick gloves, as splinters are an inevitable risk.

You can find pruning paints and sealants for trees, but you shouldn’t use them on a topped tree. Coatings like these often inhibit the tree’s healing process. An important exception is if there are dangerous fungi nearby that the tree is particularly vulnerable to, like oaks and oak wilt. Sealing cuts can help prevent fungi from taking root.

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

Most experts recommend removing a tree that has sustained more than 25% loss in the limbs, trunk, or circumference of the bark. Doing an initial trimming of damaged and dangling branches, but then waiting a few days of monitoring to decide how much more you might need to cut can help you better assess the total damage to the tree. However, consulting a tree maintenance pro to make this determination the best course of action before removing a tree.
