"These movers were amazing! Three guys came and powered through the day and moved us from my apartment to our new 3 story town home. They stayed and placed and assembled all the furniture and made our move so easy. I would highly recommend them!"

"Kenneth came out and provided a free estimate on the day and time he said he would (Sunday, March 16 at 11:30am). We went over the job I was looking to have done and he made suggestions on how to best trim the tree to keep it balanced and healthy. He suggested a way to trim the branches overhanging my neighbor's yard in such a way that the tree would not be off-balance and would need re-trimming every 4-5 years. He handed me a laminated copy of his insurance coverage that I looked over while he wrote up the estimate. His estimate was $400. I received estimates ranging from $250 to $650 from other providers. I decided to go with Langley Lawn & Tree Service because it was rated highly on Angie's List and Kenneth took the time to really understand what I wanted and promised me that I would be pleased with his work.
The next day, I sent him a message thru Angie's List asking for his work. He put me on the books for Tuesday, April 1 at 8:00am.
On Tuesday, April 1 at 7:50am, Kenneth called to let me know he had a scheduling conflict and asked if it would be possible to reschedule for Wednesday or Thursday. I let him know that neither of those days would work and asked if there would be any way to get the work done that day as originally planned. He said he would work out his scheduling conflict and would arrive by 1:00pm to trim my tree. He arrived just before 1:00pm and he and his crew went straight to work.
I was not home at the time the work occurred, but my wife was very pleased with the professionalism of Kenneth and his crew. They got the work done in just under three hours and left my backyard extremely clean. All branches were hauled away. Upon completion, my wife wrote the check and the price was $400, exactly as quoted.
When I got home, I looked at my tree from the side of the street and saw that Langley Lawn & Tree Service had done EXACTLY what I wanted. They trimmed the branches away from my neighbor's home and took a lot of redundant low hanging branches off on my side of the yard without removing too much shade. The tree looks extremely balanced and clean! It has really opened up my backyard vertically! My wife and I both feel we got a great value for $400.
I have two large pine trees and two large oak trees in my front yard and I can see us using Langley very soon to get those things cleaned up.

Hauling questions, answered by experts

The most affordable way to get rid of junk often involves a do-it-yourself approach, especially if you don't have a large amount of debris. Start by sorting your items into categories: donate, recycle, sell, or trash.

  • Donate or Sell: Usable goods can be donated to local charities. You can also list items for free or for a low price on platforms like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

  • Use Municipal Services: Your city's regular garbage collection or bulk pickup days can be the cheapest option. However, be sure to check community guidelines for quantity limits and accepted materials. You can also take recyclables to a city drop-off center.

  • Haul it Yourself: If you have a truck or suitable vehicle, loading the junk and taking it to a local transfer station, public dump, or waste disposal facility is a very cost-effective method.

If a DIY approach isn't possible, consider these options:

  • Rent a Dumpster: You can rent a dumpster, fill it yourself, and the rental company will haul it away. This is a good middle-ground if you can do the labor but don't have a vehicle for transport.

  • Hire a Junk Removal Service: While typically the most expensive choice, hiring a professional junk removal team is the most time-efficient and requires the least effort from you. This is a good solution if your city's services won't accept the items or if you are unable to move them yourself.

The only packing material that isn’t often recyclable is rubber, but rubber bands aren’t common for packing and moving. Some materials used for moving, like cardboard, paper, and hard plastic, are easy to recycle and can often just go out for regular pickup with your other recyclables, like cans and bottles. Plastic films and packing peanuts can be a bit more difficult to recycle and usually need to go to a dedicated recycling facility that can handle those specific materials.

While many junk haulers have restrictions on taking hazardous materials, most will be able to take appliances that use refrigerants, like refrigerators and air conditioners. Always check with the junk removal company first to find out if there are extra fees or preparation steps for removing appliances that use refrigerants.

Costs depend on concrete thickness, removal method, labor, and disposal fees.

Follow the instructions of your dumpster company to pack it correctly, both for safety and efficiency. In most cases, bulk items are best at the bottom, and smaller items fill in the gaps. Try to balance the weight of your dumpster by filling the base end-to-end before piling anything else on top. Additionally, never fill the dumpster higher than the top rim so your team can safely transport it to the dump.
