"We paid $9,000 for French drains, tree removal, stump grinding and New Seeded Lawn. They tried to do all in the rain, dumped a load of gravel in the yard, not the street. They started the project in March 2021 and its October 2021 and we still do not have grass! I had to finish the stump grinding myself with a chainsaw! They refused to rake all the gravel they dumped in our yard and refused to grow a full stand of grass as promised! Do not hire these people! Beside all above they hit and damaged our brand new leaf guard gutters. They paid for the damaged gutter to be replaced, but it shows their lack of detail and care of our home."

Lawn Care questions, answered by experts

Carpetgrass is distinguishable by its pale green to yellowish color and coarse appearance that grows well under shady conditions in poor and compact soils. If it grows uncontrolled, it tends to develop a hairy seedhead, giving patches of grass a messy appearance. If carpetgrass is regularly cut, it looks very similar to centipedegrass and St. Augustine grass, and people may confuse them. Carpetgrass blades are flat and rounded at the tip. Note that the grass only typically grows as a weed in Southern states.

To prepare your lawn for core aeration, water it the day before you aerate. (Alternatively, you can wait until it rains and aerate the following day.) Aerating after watering or a rainy day will make the process easier since you can penetrate moist soil better than dry soil. You should also flag your sprinklers so that you don’t accidentally hit them while aerating. If you have a lot of thatch buildup in your yard, you might need to dethatch your lawn before aerating as well.

When you’re ready to edge your lawn, mowing your grass first is better. By mowing it, you’ll know whether you’ll need to trim it more along the edges later. If you edge your lawn first, it can result in bare patches, giving it an inconsistent finish. Plus, mowing first really diminishes the look of a freshly edged lawn.

You free up your weekends, as pros often conduct mowing and maintenance efficiently and without disrupting your schedule.

Post-dethatching, lawn recovery includes watering, fertilizing, and reseeding as necessary to restore health and promote growth.
