"My husband and I could not have had a better experience with JC Tree Cutting and Landscaping Service. We had already gotten a quote from a local business when we were contacted by this company through an inquiry I had made on Angie's List. The contact I received was so kind I was compelled to convince my husband to take advantage of the offer of a complimentary estimate to be completed the next day. I understand the complexity of tree work as my brother-in-law had his own successful tree business in Michigan, and I appreciate the knowledge and expertise that is needed. This business is both insured and licensed. Contact was immediate and polite, the appointment was confirmed and contact made to update me as to exact arrival time. The estimate was thorough and my husband and I both were so impressed we sealed the deal on the spot. Work was completed within hours with every tree dropped with care and precision. We have already recommended this company to a friend and will continue to."

About us: Parker is the founder, started by providing lawn care to an elderly gentleman. Parker’s mother provided home care for the gentleman at the time. Unfortunately the gentleman’s condition got worse and the gentleman could no longer take of his property. The gentleman knew Parker and asked his mother if he would be interested. Parker was 14 at the time and excepted the challenge. The gentleman allowed Parker to use his mower and anything in the garage. Parker learned how to mow, weed eat, trim trees and bushes, mulch flower beds, and anything else that was needed. What Parker learned during the 3 years is that he loved lawn care but more important the satisfaction of his work and satisfying the gentleman. Therefore, Parker founded the company on client satisfaction, reliability, and communication. Give us a call and we will answer your questions.

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Generally, it is not necessary to remove old mulch before applying a new layer. As organic mulch breaks down, it enriches the soil with nutrients. However, you should remove the old layer if it shows signs of fungus or disease, which can be common in moist areas, or if the total depth is already too thick. Avoid letting the total mulch depth exceed 3 inches, as this can harm plant roots. If you do remove old, disease-free mulch, it can be added to a compost pile.

Pea gravel is the most common type of gravel, and it can be made of limestone, granite, basalt, sandstone, and many other types of rock. The strength in gravel comes from the distribution across the stones, so while one rock type may not be particularly strong (like sandstone), the matrix of small rocks that is gravel can become incredibly strong when installed correctly.

Replace organic mulch every one to two years, depending on the variety. Wood chips and straw, for example, will last a couple of years, while grass clippings and pine needles need replacing every several months. Inorganic mulch—such as rock and rubber chips—can stay in place for up to four years, depending on erosion and general garden upkeep.

If you’re using crushed stone or gravel as a base material, then yes, you should compact it to prevent movement of the top layers. For instance, if you don’t compact crushed stone or gravel and you lay pavers on top of them, the pavers will shift over time. However, if you’re using gravel or crushed stone as a top layer for aesthetic purposes, you might not want to compact the materials.

It depends on the model of your pool. You’ll always have to level the topsoil, but most vinyl-lined pools require an additional 1- to 2-inch layer of sand to protect the liner. This way, when a foot kicks down to the bottom of your pool, it’s not scraping the liner against the hard ground. If your pool isn’t vinyl-lined, you can skip this step or add a layer of another base material, like decomposed granite. Always check your manufacturer’s instructions before you begin.
