"needed help with network security cameras in my home.  Mr. Jim did not have experience with them but he was more than willing to try.  He was very responsive and determined to fix the problem.  He was not going to charge me if he couldn't help me.  He did exactly what he promised and completed this project with a great attitude!  I highly recommend him and will definitely utilize his help in the future."

"Mr. Sullivan had recently completed a repair for us, cleaning and resealing the grout in a tiled whirlpool tub and shower.  He did an excellent job, and I asked him whether he could also fix the water damage caused by a combination of these leaks and a flood from our washing machine.  Our dining room ceiling had suffered significant staining, buckling, and cracking across an 8 by 10 foot area.  Mr. Sullivan assessed the damage, and quoted us $450.00 for repairs.  This was very reasonable; we had two other estimates, one of which was slightly higher, the other of which was much higher.  Mr. Sullivan was also able to do the work within a week.  The other service providers couldn't fit us in for at least a month.  Mr. Sullivan arrived promptly at 9 a.m. on Monday, 23 June, and began work immediately.  We were away from the house for large parts of the day; we gave him a key so he could come and go as needed.  We had no hesitation whatsoever in doing this.  Mr. Sullivan does meticulous, high-quality work.  He is efficient in his approach, but he takes the time he needs to finish the job to his satisfaction.  He patched the damaged drywall, re-nailed it where it had pulled free of its fastenings, resealed the seams, replaced the ceiling fixtures, sanded, primed, and painted.  At the end of the day, the ceiling looked as if it had never been damaged.  Mr. Sullivan is a true craftsman, and I strongly recommend him for any job that falls within his wide range of expertise."

Window Screen Repair questions, answered by experts

Window repairs cost $175 to $615, depending on the type of repair. Because double-hung windows have two sashes and multiple pieces of hardware, like locks and handles, there are many parts that can break over time. Repairing locks, latches, or other hardware costs about $75 to $200 and is easy to DIY. Fixing one or multiple sashes costs about $200 to $600.

There are different types of screen materials available when purchasing a screen door, but the two main options are fiberglass and aluminum. Fiberglass is lightweight and affordable, but can stretch out, so it needs to be replaced more often. Aluminum has a higher upfront cost, but is more sturdy. Aluminum can be more difficult to install, even if you know how to replace screen door mesh.

Most solar screens last 10 to 15 years, depending on the material quality, exposure to weather, and the level of maintenance. High-quality materials and regular cleaning can extend their lifespan, while harsh climates or neglect may shorten it. Routine cleaning, inspecting for damage, and avoiding harsh cleaners can help extend the lifespan of your screens.

While sometimes used interchangeably, screen doors and storm doors have key differences. Screen doors are simple structures, typically composed of just a frame and a screen, designed to keep out bugs while allowing air circulation. In contrast, storm doors are heavier and more complex, built to protect your home's main entry door from weather and intruders. They usually feature an aluminum frame with interchangeable tempered glass and screen panels, allowing you to switch between ventilation and insulation. A storm door offers more protection and versatility but generally costs more than a basic screen door.

The screen on many screen doors is held in place by screen spline. Screen spline is typically a thin vinyl tubing that fits into the groove of the door’s frame and holds the screen in place. To install the spline on a screen door, you’ll need a spline roller—a tool that presses the spline and screen into the door’s narrow groove. Note that old spline can crack and break, so replacing your screens is a good time to replace the spline, too.
