"Our stone walk way is on a very steep hill.  Ab and his team worked carefully to get the 200-300 pound stones down the hill to the path site with minimal disturbance to the yard and grass.  He suggested a certain type of stone that would provide long-term durability and stability for the walk to the lake and added pleasing curves so that the steps looked more inviting than a cold stairway.  He was careful to plant grass along the sides of the pathway where the construction disturbed the grass already in place.  While the weather was extremely hot, he and his team worked every day until the project was completed, about 3 days.  They showed up when expected and communicated their plans for the next day at the end of each day.  There were no surprises.  We ended up with some extra materials (stones) and he added extra steps at the side of the house even though that wasn't part of the original design.  There was no additional cost for this work."

"Ronnie was very thorough looking at the chimneys and analyzing our needs to give us an accurate quote. He thoroughly talked through the quotes and allowed me to ask many questions. When he came to do the job, he brought a helper (Big John). The two guys completed the job in a few hours, stacked the excess bricks nicely, and cleaned up after themselves. When doing the chimney sweeping, Ronnie laid out large cloth tarps to catch any falling ash/dust/debris and used a highly sealed vacuum to clean up inside our house when he was done. He even attached fans to the top of the chimneys to draw a lot of the ash/dust up out of the chimney instead of letting it fall into our living room. I was dreading having our chimneys cleaned expecting it to be a huge dirty mess. Instead, Ronnie and John worked quickly and kept things nice and clean.
As an added bonus, both men nicely talked to my four year old son who wanted to know EVERYTHING that they were doing."

"Jonas Riley, owner of Universal Construction, was called because we were searching for a company who had experience with brick chimney (leaking) repairs.  He responded very quickly, was very good to share his past work with old brick chimneys. Ours was approx. 60 years old. Was knowledgeable and enthusiastic about doing a good job for us.  He immediately e-mailed us a very professional contract to look at and consider.  The contract listed exactly what his obligations were, including hauling off all debris, a warranty on the work, etc. Because of very extensive rainy season, we had to delay beginning work until we had 4 or 5 sunny days. The contract stated that 1/2 of the agreed price would be due when brick and supplies were delivered; 1/2 due at completion. Jonas visited several times and brought brick samples for us to choose one.  He was easy to work with and apologized for the extremely wet weather. We were not the least bothered by the delays.  A "hole in the roof" cannot be done with rain. The old rain damaged wood in the attic was torn out and rebuilt.  Insulation was checked. When the brick masons (4) came they were efficient and did a beautiful job with brick we chose and mortar color we asked for.  Jonas asked how we liked the color of the flashing and offered to paint it a different color....we liked the dark brown and left it.  He had a welder make a custom fit chimney cap and installed it on the last day of our work.  There was no debris left behind, but he did give us a pad of shingles to keep.  His employees were very nice and helpful if we needed a favor.   Yes, I would hire this company for any number of repairs around the home. In fact, we plan to repair the sheetrock and ceilings damaged from past years of leaking chimney, but will delay those repairs until storms occur and we can be certain of the chimney."

FAQs for chimney cap service projects in Plainview, TN

Chimney caps may be installed by a few different professionals, including a chimney sweep or a mason that specializes in fireplaces and chimneys. A gas fireplace technician is the best person to install a chimney cap on a gas log fireplace vent to be sure the cap is appropriate for the application.

A chimney cap costs about $300 on average. The prices range from about $75 to $1,000, depending on the material, size, any repairs needed, and if your chimney cap requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, copper, or stainless steel. Additional costs may include hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before a cap is installed.

Yes, it’s worth capping a chimney. Here are several reasons to install a chimney cap:

  • Keep out rain, snow, wildlife, and other debris

  • Help prevent chimney fires

  • Reduce your chimney’s exposure to moisture

  • Maintain your chimney flue liner

  • Help reduce energy bills by helping regulate your home’s temperature

Typically, a chimney cap will last from three to 25 years. This wide range is due to variables like climate, the material the cap is made from, and how often you use your fireplace. Regular inspections and maintenance can help extend the life of your chimney cap.

The best style of chimney cap for a brick chimney is one that fits tightly around the brick top of the chimney. The cap should have a screen to fully enclose it to keep animals out. The best materials include stainless steel, copper, or aluminum that fit tightly or are custom fabricated for a perfect fit on your chimney.
