Barry’s background as a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Professional Engineer made visible the multitude of problems present in his home, and the homes around him.Given the enormous number and complexity of variables relating to building construction, it is no wonder that many suffer from issues such as mold, leaky building envelopes, elevated radon levels, poor storm water management, improper ventilation design, and many other issues. "I hired DocAir to remediate existing mold and install a vapor barrier & dehumidifier system in the crawlspace of a property I recently purchased. My first impression of DocAir was very positive. Thomas, the technician that was dispatched to my property provided a very clear analysis of my issues and plan for remediation, I was receiving regular updates and communication from the office manager— so I contracted DocAir to move forward with their proposal at the next available opening they had 6 weeks later. Unfortunately, that was one of the last parts of my experience with DocAir that was positive. In the weeks leading up to my installation I received zero communication about the specific start date & time, who my project manager was and how long the job would take to complete—finally prompting me to call their office to get this information after the start date originally quoted to me had passed. The mold guarantee I was sent had the wrong address listed, it took me following up with the office 4 times to finally have this corrected. Shawn and his team did a great job cleaning the mold and installing the vapor barrier but upon completion of this portion I was then made aware that the wiring and completion of the dehumidifier system was done by an entirely different department and someone else would have to come out at a later date to set this up. I received no information from the office as to when this would be scheduled. Several days passed, with still no word, when I finally reached out I was told “this will be completed tomorrow afternoon.” No one showed up and no one from the office reached out to me. When I called them they apologized and said they would come out the next day. No one showed up again and again I received no word from the office as to why. As it stands now, I have paid DocAir in full for a job they have yet to complete. The work they do may actually be good but, I would not recommend this company based on their unprofessional lack of respect for their customer’s time and failure to properly communicate. Very disappointing end to an experience that started out with a lot of promise."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

The four types of hazardous waste are toxic, corrosive, flammable, and reactive. These four types fall under the EPA’s designation of characteristic hazardous waste. The EPA also categorizes hazardous wastes as listed, which includes specific byproducts or unused chemicals from manufacturing and industrial processes, universal waste, including bulbs, mercury, pesticides, batteries, and various other common substances, and mixed waste containing radioactive material.

While asbestos can’t be directly absorbed through the skin—the fibers are too big—skin contact can still produce symptoms. Contact dermatitis can flare up in sensitive individuals but in most cases, the danger from asbestos comes from inhaling the fibers, or dust, that is produced when asbestos is disturbed. If you touch asbestos by accident, immediately wash yourself and your clothes.

If you suspect exposure to asbestos, prioritize seeking medical advice by informing your healthcare provider about the potential exposure with clear details about the circumstances that led to the exposure. Regular health check-ups and screenings if you work in high-risk industries or live in a home with asbestos are essential for early detection of any asbestos-related conditions. You should also consider consulting occupational health experts or legal professionals for guidance on potential next steps and preventive measures.

The EPA broadly defines hazardous waste as any waste that could pose a danger to humans or the environment. More specifically, it includes any material that could combust or explode under normal temperatures and pressure, as well as materials that are toxic or corrosive. Some common household hazardous waste products include aerosol cans, paint cans, old tires, medical supplies, unused medications, fire extinguishers, cleaning solutions, and lawn care products.

Asbestos has not been used to manufacture new siding since the early 1980s. So, while asbestos is not currently used to make new siding, it can still be present in the siding of homes built before the 1980s. The best way to know if your siding has any type of asbestos is to have a professional test it.
