Small jobs welcome

"Steve and Jim were on time, their work was extremely professional, knowledgeable; and took great care to not disturb or damage my home and property. They dropped the tree, removed the wood and debris and cleaned the area with great care. I've had other tree people before, but Better Tree Service did outstanding work. I WILL contract with them again when needed."

"Freddy was so very kind and professional I told him that I wanted a certain tree cut down and he instead offered to just cut the more rotten limbs and shape up the rest So I agreed and the tree turned out so beautifully I’m so glad I took his advice I will definitely have him come back again and do some more tree work for me Additionally his office kept in touch with me from start to finish to make sure everything was going to my satisfaction Thanks so much! "Tyler came out early, assessed the situation, offered a great price, and took the tree down the same morning, which happened to be the windest day of the year so far in 2023. He may have saved my neighbor's house or life. Thank you Tyler, and I will definitely be seeking your services again. Highly recommend."

"OMG, this guy is amazing! He called me right away, showed up the OMG, this guy is amazing! He called me right away, showed up the same day, and his prices fit my budget. He's the guy I'll be calling from now on. My last guy would have charged anywhere from $100 to $500, but this guy was honest, affordable, and got the job done without overcharging. I highly recommend him!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

Not all evergreen conifers need to be pruned, but some do. Pruning pine trees is not necessary, but you can do so during June and July if you wish. On the other hand, spruce, firs, and junipers do need to be pruned from late winter to early spring.

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.

For Bradford pears, damage from storms is common, and if the trunk splits, it can pose a danger to people and surrounding structures. The best thing to do in that instance is to have the tree removed. If there’s only minor damage to the branches, pruning away the damaged parts is the first order of business. You may also want to consult a professional arborist to make sure the tree is healthy.

Generally, no, tree topping isn’t a good technique, and you should avoid using it in most cases. Tree topping may be the only good option to save a tree following severe damage after a storm, but in most other cases, it’s not the right choice. Tree topping can leave trees vulnerable to disease and further damage, and most pros will suggest against it.
