"The initial consultation and price quoted were very reasonable. Oscar understood clearly the scope of work, the expectation set for the quality of the project, and his team executed it with great professionalism and craftsmanship. Marisimo (I may have spelled the name incorrectly), is an exceptionally talented drywall installer/repairer. He did some ceilings, laundry room repairs, and other tight patches and you would never know the ceilings and walls were opened. They even skim coated, sanded and painted a crack in our kitchen ceiling without hesitation when I mentioned it. I told my wife, I do not like spending money but the work they did and results were worth every penny. I would DEFINITELY hire Pitas Painting again and oh, they are meticulous about cleaning up and keeping materials organized and throughout the entire process! Superb Quality; Reasonable Price!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Mudding drywall is a DIY-friendly project, but patience and practice are required for perfection. If you’re working in a highly visible area and want the best possible finish, hiring a professional drywaller is worth the cost. Pros have the tools and know-how to ensure a smooth surface with fewer sanding sessions and less cleanup.

When doing a DIY paint job, it can be tricky to achieve the perfect, straight line between your wall and ceiling. There are several methods, including lining it with painter’s tape and using the “cut in” brush tactic. Some homeowners choose to apply a thin line of caulk to the wall-ceiling seam to create the appearance of a perfect line.

Plastering and skimming are two different techniques for finishing walls. Plastering involves applying a thick layer of a plaster mixture—typically containing gypsum, lime, cement, sand, and water—to create a new surface. This process often requires multiple coats and is used for repairing significant damage or creating decorative textures. Skimming, on the other hand, is a technique that involves applying a thin layer of drywall compound or joint compound over an existing surface to smooth it out, covering minor imperfections, small cracks, or uneven textures for a polished look. Plastering is generally more costly and labor-intensive than skimming. Although some people use the terms interchangeably, they refer to different processes and materials.

You should stagger drywall sheets to help prevent cracking. The joints between drywall sheets are the weak spots, so if you install drywall with seams aligned, you’ll create weak lines that run across the length of the wall and extend from floor to ceiling. But when you stagger drywall, the solid sections of panels will support the joints. This can prevent seams from cracking or separating due to fluctuating temperature and humidity, vibrations from movement inside the home, and gravity.

Damp plaster does dry out, although the drying time depends on several factors, including the type of plaster, the surrounding temperature, moisture content, and the extent of the dampness. Sometimes, it can take weeks or months for wall plaster to dry naturally.
