"A home inspector recommended Taylor Waterproofing, saying it was a quality company that had reasonable pricing. When I called, the owner said he was booked beyond when I needed the work done, but after considering a moment, he said he would get the work done even if it meant working late or over the weekend. He kept in touch, so i never worried that the work wouldn't happen. When I met his team, I was very impressed with their professionalism and their kindness. The work was done well within my time constraints! My crawl space was left perfectly clean; he did way more than I expected. Working with them was a great experience!"

"I called American Foundation and Waterproofing regarding a significant, but localized, leak in a basement foundation wall. Michael arrived on time for the inspection appointment and performed a thorough inspection. He identified the cause of the leak and suggested several fixes that I could try myself. If the suggestions do not work, I will definitely hire this company. I believe they are honest, professional, and know what they are doing."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired them to demolish and haul off an old shed (12x16 ft.) and do the site prep and construction of a framed gravel pad for a new one. The work was challenging: narrow, steep, curving driveway with a gate; fence on side and back of the work area; junk, including an old concrete pad, under the old shed; sloped site. The owner discussed the job and provided cost estimate(s), negotiated schedule, worked with me to resolve unforeseen issues, focused on the job so it was completed in a timely manner, and was pleasant to deal with. The work was done by an experienced, careful, hard-working, and reliable person who did an outstanding job. I would hire them again and recommend them to anyone who needs site prep work done."

"These guys were great!  From the first call to their office they scheduled us right in for an inspection.  When the inspector came he was organized, curious and extremely informative. When the job started, the crew was on time and worked unbelievably hard throughout the entire day, these men were super thorough. The foremen positioned the sump pump and discharge line so it was almost invisible to the naked eye.   Required a drain through the wall of the house. They also finished the job 1/2 day earlier then they had anticipated.  When they finished the job the basement was left clean and neat.  We got several quotes for the waterproofing and we are very happy with the results we got from AmeriDry. I highly recommend them.  And we would hire them again if needed.

"With the recent snow melt and the rain we are having this may be a timely recommendation. I hope you don’t have this need, but if you do I would like to recommend Master Service Company. We had at least six estimates for waterproofing our basement and although not nearly the cheapest, we were impressed by the presentation and the personnel and low key sales approach. So, we hired them! The work was done last week and again we were impressed with the crew doing the work, the care given to hold down the dust created, the quality of the materials used, and the willingness of the crew to keep us apprised of the job as it progressed. The was great care given to cleanup of what is a very messy job. We waited until the repair had been “battle tested”, (and this inclement weather has certainly accomplished that) before writing a recommendation. We could not be more pleased at this point. Again I hope you don’t have the need, but if you do give Mr. Jeff Russell at Master Service a call. Contact: Jeff Russell 317-720-3288."

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Signs include persistent dampness, mold or mildew presence, musty odors, and visible water stains. If any of these occur, it is advisable to contact a professional for an inspection.

The best way to ensure the ground next to your home’s foundation drains properly is to divert water away from it as much as possible. While a flood wall can stop water from entering the house, gutters and spouts can help direct rainwater and melting snow away from the foundation. Keep your gutters as clear as possible from dead leaves and other yard debris so they can effectively divert water from your house. Add extenders to the spouts so the water runs out and away from your home, not into the surrounding soil.

Yes, it is possible to over-dehumidify a house by removing too much moisture from the air. This can create an overly dry environment that negatively affects those with respiratory or skin issues, and may cause your skin, hair, and sinuses to feel dry. However, this is unlikely to happen with most modern dehumidifiers, as they are equipped with moisture sensors and adjustable settings. These features allow the unit to pause automatically when the desired humidity level is reached, preventing the air from becoming uncomfortably dry. In contrast, older or more basic dehumidifiers left running for too long could potentially over-dry the air. To avoid this, aim for a balance between removing excess moisture and maintaining a comfortable environment. You can often monitor your home's humidity levels using a modern thermostat for guidance.

The least expensive basement waterproofing methods include grading soil away from your home, installing downspout extenders on your gutter system, and applying a waterproof paint on the interior of the foundation walls. Installing a French drain is a relatively inexpensive method if you do the work yourself, although it’s labor-intensive and can be challenging to install properly.

As the first layer of water protection for your roof deck and the building materials below, underlayment is designed to prevent water damage, so it’s okay if it gets wet. However, you shouldn’t rely solely on underlayment for protection. If rain interrupts your roof project and you have all of the underlayment down, you’ll likely be fine, but you should install shingles over that layer as soon as possible, as long-term exposure can lead to water damage.
