"MAC Masonry did a great job for me at a great price. They were responsive, prompt and professional. "Excellent service, work and communication. I talked to many stone workers and they compare to what is known as the best stone company in the area - the huge one. JNA Construction is way better. They do what they say and they are thorough. They replaced the mortar in old stone, cleaned up an entire stone house and walls, and treated the stone for water repellency. Highly recommend them and will have them back for other projects."

"I had a great experience with Lucas Outdoor Design, these days its hard to find a construction company that shows up when they say they will, but this company also showed up when they said they would, even when it was snowing! The workers asked my along the way if they liked the quality of their work and if I had any concerns. They did a fantastic job and I cant wait to use my new back patio once it warms up!"

Yes, concrete is significantly stronger than masonry, especially if the concrete pour includes reinforcements, like steel rebar. Concrete is a uniform material that can withstand compression, sheer force, and tensile force as long as it’s reinforced. Masonry involves the use of mortar or grout to connect individual building materials, like brick, stone, or tile. Mortar and grout are also reasonably strong and resist compression well, but they don’t come close to the strength of poured concrete.

Stone veneer siding is approximately four times less expensive than stone because it's made of concrete and aggregates instead of natural stone. But veneer looks like real stone, is easier to install, and acts as a great, durable siding option. 

Cobblestone can be made from many different types of stones but the most common ones, by far, are granite, basalt, limestone, and sandstone.  If you are laying a brick paver patio or other such project, the medium is different. It’s rare, but cobblestone can also be made from marble, slate, jasper, and other types of rock. Technically, you can make cobblestone from almost any type of rock, but if it is weather-resistant and stands the test of time is another question entirely.

It’s called cobblestone because it’s made of stones that are “cobbed” together. A cob is a term that refers to rounded lumps. Originally, cobblestone streets were made from pebbles and stones gathered from riverbeds that had been rounded over time by the passage of water. The term has nothing to do with a cobbler, which is the term for someone who makes and fixes shoes.

Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to stone houses. They are slow to build and the materials are pricey, both of which balloon the total cost. Stone walls require a more robust foundation, which costs more to install. Running plumbing, electrical, and HVAC through a stone house is much more difficult too, so homeowners need to seriously consider if the aesthetic benefit is worth the cost of building with stone.
