"Sam Pickel and his father began their R&S roofing business more than 20 years ago. He was recommended to me by someone who'd been impressed with a precision guttering job he'd done at South Holston. I called and Sam and his wife came in the evening to inspect my damaged and leaking aluminum roof after a tree fell on the deck. They measured for materials and Sam clearly explained various quality / pricing options, and I felt good about making the necessary choices. He said candidly he doesn't negotiate price, that he and his father had always charged according to a fee schedule that was fair for a job done well. The end result was beautiful. I paid a deposit but before the work was completed I had to be away from the area. I was kept informed via email about the progress and his wife (who runs the office) sent photos. I then paid for the remainder of the cost. I was thrilled when I actually saw the new roof and guttering in person, but best of all was staying snug and dry during the heavy rains of this 2013 summer, when 95% of the annual rainfall had already fallen by July. I recommended R&S to a friend who needed a new roof, who was also pleased, and I just contracted with him to do work on my mother's house a year after my new roof.
