"We had a tree fall on our barn/shed in the backyard and Dennis worked his magic and did it fast. Arrived the day he said he would and got to work! When he was done, you wouldn't even know a tree fell on it and damaged it. So thankful for him. He also did a few small jobs that saved me some time while he was here and we were waiting for materials. Really thankful for him and will not only recommend him to my friends & neighbors, but he will be on my speed dial. Thx D!"

"Gary did an Excellent job. He was very professional, courteous and thorough. He made sure that the entire fence and wooden gate was completely sealed with Thompson water sealant. I definitely will call him in the future when other needs arise."

"It was a pleasant experience. The employees (not subcontractors) were reliable and efficient. Atila Girismen was on the site at least twice per day. The work was completed well and within the expected time frame. Mr. Girismen understands the value of communications and kept me informed of the project throughout its duration."

"Jonathan is amazing! He can do it all! Not only did he shave my Formica cabinets to ensure my new refrigerator fit, he torn down my old balcony and rebuilt a new one for my home. His work is only matched by his exceptional customer service! I highly recommend him and have already passed along his information to a couple of friends who are looking for home repair services."

"They painted our kitchen, foyer, living room (very high ceilings), one bedroom, and the master bath. They painted the walls, all trim, ceilings, and doors in those rooms. They were on time everyday and very professional! They covered everything we had in our home so nothing got dust or paint on it. You keep everything thats hanging on the walls that you want up, they take it down for you and hang it back where you had it. They patched all holes that weren't being used and fixed all the drywall work. All three of the men were extremely nice and made me feel very comfortable leaving the house everyday. I came home when they were finished and everything was back on the walls and everything was very clean. Even if it was just painting, they did a great job and I will hire them again in the future for any projects we have!"

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

This answer varies based on where you are, but most states require that all homes are greater than 320 square feet. Remember that four walls are not the only requirements—windows, closet space, minimal ceiling heights, and indoor air quality are also factors. Each state and municipality differs, though, and as some don’t consider tiny homes permanent shelters, you’ll need to check to ensure you aren’t violating any local or state laws with your build.

Yes, you can use a storage shed several ways, including as a chicken coop, but you'll need to make some modifications. You will have to add a chicken door, roosts, ventilation near the roof, mesh on the windows, and insulation if you live in a colder climate. Additionally, you’ll want to ensure that the shed is predator-proof so no other animals can harm your chickens. You should also add a run and nest boxes to your shed.

Common pitfalls include underestimating the cost of site preparation, overlooking permit and utility fees, and not setting aside funds for unexpected changes. Change orders during construction can disrupt your budget. It’s best to plan a detailed budget, obtain multiple quotes, and include a 10% to 15% contingency fund for unexpected expenses.

Yes, barn doors can be too heavy, although the limitation is usually imposed by the mounting hardware you buy and not your home’s framing, unless you’re building an unusually wide door. To keep the weight down, you can opt for 1-by material rather than 2-by material, and choose a softwood like pine rather than a hardwood like maple or oak. Check the weight limits on your mounting hardware, and always attach your door track to studs rather than to drywall anchors.

The timeline to build your barn will depend on the barn type and the company you hire. A pole barn may take six weeks or so, while a traditionally framed or steel-framed barn can take four months or longer. Building a barndominium takes the longest because you are essentially building a new home. You can expect barndominiums to take six months or longer to build.
