I was concerned mainly about the Bradford pear trees because I had been told by different people after I bought the house that it was not a matter of if, but rather when each would lose a part of itself and possibly land on my house or fence. I could have had them pruned down a lot, but was told I would have to do this every few years to keep them from growing back so large again over time and I decided to just have them removed. One of the the large Pin Oaks had signs of disease at the top and none of the tree experts I spoke to could confidently say that it was not going to die in the next few years. The other Pin Oak was within 10 feet of my house and I was told it looked healthy, but that the root system could encroach on the foundation of the house. The Maple tree was beside the fence and over the years had grown rather lopsided because of being in the shade of the other taller trees. I had not initially planned to have all this done, but they use very heavy equipment to do the job and I decided to have all the trees removed to avoid the possibility of having to go through all this again in the future. They had to take down part of my fence in the front to gain access to the back yard and in the process one of the fence posts cracked near the cement deep in the ground. The fence is old and in need of some repair, and I am considering replacing it in the future so I did not have them replace this front part with the gate. The heavy equipment did leave some ruts in the ground, but given all they had to do was not too bad. They took great care to avoid coming right after a rain to try to diminish rutting and to protect the yard as much as possible. Mr. Lewis told me he would clean up the yard after all was done and he did that very well, leaving it in very good condition for the landscaper to come and put down top soil and reseed. I had planned to do this before deciding on taking down all the trees because of erosion from the grass not growing well under the trees. As for the price I am new to all of this, but from what I understand from talking to different people it was reasonable. All in all, Mr. Lewis and his crew were very good and polite to work with and I would recommend them to anyone needing tree service. Mr. Lewis gave me some good suggestions about what to plant and what not to plant in the future to avoid having to go through all this again. If you are contemplating planting trees in your yard I would suggest you contact Mr. Lewis first for his opinion for your particular yard, or if you are buying a house that you invest in a consultation with him about the trees and other plants in the yard before making your offer to buy."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tn/johnson-city/the-tree-trimmer-reviews-7610546.htm"},"position":5},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Summit Group Inc.","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"TN","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Michael Y."},"reviewBody":"The first job of the driveway and sidewalk project went well, as did the second job of landscaping and initial landscape lighting. We were really impressed with this work and asked Victor to do more jobs for us. The next job was the lanai area which included resanding and resealing the pavers. The patio looked great, however, we have had loose pavers ever since even after multiple attempts to get them taken care of. The next job was a major challenge for Victor and his employees, and still is a problem for us. I sent Victor pictures of what type of water feature I was looking for and we agreed on a price. One of his employees built it and really struggled with it. The rocks he used had sharp edges all around and looked like they had just been piled on top of our existing planter. It looked nothing like the pictures I sent. They sanded down the rough edges and refaced the blue tile on the front and sides with something that looked more natural. It looked better, although the big problem now was that it leaked. This was in the August/ September timeframe. They have been out at least a dozen times to try to repair the leak to no avail - it still leaks. There has been no follow up from Victor and we have finally stopped calling or emailing him as it has proven to be too difficult a job for him or his employees. We spent $4,000 on a waterfall that is just shut off 95% of the time. If we use it, we lose chemicals and water, and it stains the lanai. Also, the last job was the fireplace, patio, and landscape lighting in the back yard. I must say the fireplace is beautiful, however, they built it on top of a sprinkler (I had to have this capped off as we were getting a lot of water built up around it), and did a really shoddy job of installing the landscape lights. Some were not working, others were barely placed in the ground, and others were installed with no bulbs. After Victor sent out one of his other employees to fix, they still were not working, and we finally purchased a big deal from another company to come out and repair these brand new lights. We paid Victor in full in good faith upon completion of each job, assuming we were good customers and that he would make good on the issues. We have been very disappointed in the inconsistent quality of their work, their inability and/or lack of concern to fix the problems, and overall lack of follow up. I will now have to hire and pay yet another contractor to repair the waterfall that has never worked properly. The animals are well taken care of. In the past, they also took care of a saltwater aquarium when we were out of town (we don't have that anymore). Cats are territorial and do not board well. This costs less, traumatizes the cats less, and the cats are home to greet us when we return. Not to mention the cats do not get exposed to sick animals if boarding at a vet's. Zach or Jenny put the paper in, too, if it shows up (we do not take the paper and do not appreciate it sitting there advertising we are not at home). They have cared for friends' dogs. We have used Zach's Home Pet Care for years whenever we have a trip out of town and need pet (and plant and house) sitting; they are always dependable. UPDATE 5/16/13: The yard is still terrible. Just called again and was promised a revisit tomorrow morning. I will most likely have to get another company to strip the yard, settle the soil, and plant real lawn seeds instead of whatever wildflower--dandelion--mix that was used. Don't get me wrong, I did not have a perfectly manicured lawn before, but atleast it was some kind of lawn grass and not just weeds. This is the first time I am seriously considering a suit. Absolutely ridiculous!
Followup: as of 2/28/2013, I've been promised a revisit/re-evaluation. I will provide update
Price: was exactly like other quotes we had received but I thought I was helping a small business.
Communication: They were easy to reach via phone--readily return calls etc. They still need to communicate better with homeowner about when the work will start and end. We knew our job was started when we came home to a backhoe parked in our back yard. That machine stayed there a few days--including a weekend--without the company notifying us. I had to call to ask how soon they would be back. Unfortunately, there was a family emergency that require suspension of the job but we should have been notified. The communication issue goes to the invoicing also, so this is not the case of someone wanting to be paid without working. They simply need to organize communication flow better.
Job/Results: The work was quite disappointing. Our yard was not really smooth. I guess when I called to ask about the machine in the yard the length of delay, they hurried and seeded without properly smoothing. Additionally, during the summer, we had so many bald patches. Basically, the job looks like something I could have done myself with a spreader--no sign that it was done by a professional lawn company."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/tn/blountville/j-and-w-lawn-and-landscaping-reviews-6357091.htm"},"position":10}]}

Purchased a 30 gallon, $499 maple tree and scheduled it for planting. A very large tree. Told that planting it would cost more than the tree as it was a major undertaking performed by professionals. I would be billed on completion. After the tree had leafed out it was brought to my home...

"The workers who did the actual labor of cutting two trees down, one (very large tree) in a delicate location, did an excellent job. Unlike the person who commented that you could hardly tell they had been in the backyard, they left a bit of a mess of a sparsely grassed trail where equipment had run across several times. Apart from that, it is the owner who gave me crap about contacting him rather frequently and changing the plan related to one tree. He is a very poor communicator and letting you know when your job will be done. I realize that weather plays a factor in timing, however, this man did nothing to help indicate when they would be coming out until it was a week and a half before and even then he gave me incorrect information about when they would be out. Secondly, as a businessman, he thinks that the customer is there for the convenience of the owner rather than the other way around. Once we hired them, they showed up when they said they were going to and worked until the job was done. They were very knowledgeable. We hired them to regrade our yard and install a french drain. FAQs for plant watering projects in Colonial Heights, TN
Landscapers typically charge $25 to $50 per person per hour, which equals around $50 to $100 per hour for a two-person crew. These rates can vary depending on your location, the size of staff needed for the job, and overall job type. For example, a larger crew will be needed for structural additions and hardscaping versus planting flowers.
When it comes to landscapers, licensing laws vary. Landscaping architects are required to be licensed in all 50 states, whereas traditional landscaping contractors are not typically required to hold a certification. You’ll likely be working with a landscaping contractor for most residential projects. If you are redesigning your whole yard or adding in hardscape features, you will work with a landscaping architect at some point during the project. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local landscaper guidelines.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
Lawn irrigation is the process of getting water to your lawn, grass and all, for it to grow. There are five main types of lawn irrigation methods:
Manual irrigation puts you in charge of the flow of water. Using a sprinkler head on your hose is best to evenly distribute the water across your entire lawn. This doesn’t take much time but requires you to be physically outside holding the hose.
Above-ground sprinklers attach to your hose and rotate or oscillate around your lawn. Since these are above-ground, they’ll need to be moved when it’s time to mow, and depending on the size of your property, you might need to move it around your yard for full coverage.
In-ground sprinklers are flush with the ground when not in use but pop up above the ground level when it's time to water the lawn. Piping for these sprinklers is all found underground, and there are different types of sprinkler heads for different uses and lawn sizes.
Drip irrigation involves drip lines that are more efficient than sprinklers for more extensive lawns. This involves a lot of digging since they are installed underground, but it makes it easy for you to mow.
Rainwater collection and irrigation uses nature’s precipitation to water your lawn. This option might not be available in every area since semi-reliable rainfall is needed, though the barrels for this system can range from 15 gallons to 10,000 gallons or more.
The cost of a lawn sprinkler system is $2,550 for the average homeowner. However, this price can range from $350 to $5,000 or more, depending on the type of sprinkler system you install, the size of your yard, and the type of sprinkler heads you choose. For example, rotating or oscillating sprinkler heads are more expensive than stationary ones, making the cost for one sprinkler head $2.50 to $30 each. Likewise, a yard that is 1/4 of an acre in size averages a total average price of $2,460; however, a one-acre yard averages a cost of $9,840.
Landscaping costs around $3,500 but varies widely from $200 to $14,000. Factors that play a part in your final landscaping price tag include:
Location
Yard size
Project size
Materials
Land preparation
Type of landscaping
Considering so many factors, it’s not surprising that the overall costs can differ. A typical landscaping project is flower bed installation, which averages between $800 and $3,000. However, landscape lighting installation is a higher-end project, with a price tag of $2,000 to $6,000.
