"You don't have a fantastic experience very often when you hire someone. This is the exception. Ken and Joe are the salt of the earth. I begged them to charge me more. (Yes, I actually did) Their product is fantastic and exactly what we were looking for. Prompt, professional and very knowledgeable about their products and applications. I highly recommend you talking to these guys if you have any grout related work. We had a contractor put a backsplash in our kitchen and the grout was different colors in various spots. Sir Grout came in and applied their product to our exact color specifications. Then they sealed it. Now it looks awesome and it will last. My wife was very happy after they were done. Great job Sir Grout !"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

The reasons not to install flooring underneath a bathtub outweigh the benefits. A properly installed bathtub will keep water from reaching the unprotected subfloor underneath. Installing a tub on top of finished flooring can lead to damage and scratches to the new floor. Also, a small leak from a tub drain may be more difficult to notice if finished flooring impedes water drips.

Options include clay, concrete, and slate tiles. Each offers unique durability, aesthetics, and costs.

When choosing between porcelain and ceramic tile, the best option depends on your specific needs, budget, and project application. Porcelain tile is generally more durable, denser, and harder than ceramic, making it a good choice for busy, high-traffic areas. It also offers superior moisture resistance, making it ideal for moisture-retaining spaces. However, porcelain is typically more expensive, and its hardness can make it brittle, potentially causing it to crack if a heavy object is dropped on it. In contrast, ceramic tile is a more budget-friendly option with lower material and installation costs. It is softer and easier to work with, making it a great choice for DIY projects. While not as durable as porcelain, ceramic is still a quality material suitable for many home applications, particularly small, decorative projects.

Glazed ceramic tiles don’t need to be sealed because the glazing already offers some protection against moisture. Unglazed ceramic tiles need to be sealed to keep the porous tile safe from moisture and staining. However, both types of tile can benefit from sealing. Sealant can make the tiles easier to keep clean and offer more resistance to water, spills, and stains.

No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.
