I'm pretty handy at most tasks, I went to the University of Nebraska for construction and business management. I have been doing this kind of work since the early 2000s, I have built multiple single-family homes from the ground up as well as a few commercial projects. No, shower valves and cartridges are not universal. When researching the type of shower valve you need, make sure you get the model number of the old valve or cartridge and match it to the new one.
