"I strongly recommend this contractor. Communication was great, work and materials were high quality, and I got exactly what I contracted for. These guys are good to work with, and customer centric. I would not hesitate to recommend them for any kind of project. They won't try to do things that are beyond their capabilities, but they have a great network to identify specialists for some projects."

"The egress window I had installed is good quality done well. Did have to do my own interior finish, fill and trim and there was no mitigation for concrete dust travel through house. Overall Kevin is good to work with and reliable."

"This was a difficult job. The first countertop was poorly installed. When I measured for the new one I did not take into account the overhang. In spite of these challenges and not having the right faucet, I now have a solid, well installed countertop, sink and faucet in my small RV. I’m looking forward to using RT for other projects."

"The R and C team did a great job on my flooring project. The bid was much lower than the final expense but the job was tricky and much unknown until farther into it. No complaints with the service, execution or final expense. The team was very friendly and communicative."

"We hired George to do a bathroom remodel. This required removal of a shower, tub, and vanity, as well as old floor tile. He constructed a pony wall in the bathroom to build a walk-in shower enclosure. He Built a custom pan for the bottom of the new shower and laid stone. He tiled the walls, did all the grout and sealing. He also textured all of the new drywall after he installed it, and painted. He was always punctual, very professional, and very aware as not to make a mess as he went to and from the bathroom. The workmanship on the tile is beautiful."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

You can, in theory, tile your fireplace hearth with most tiles. However just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. For example, it’s much better to use unglazed tiles because glazed tiles are more resistant to cracking under extreme heat. Porcelain is more heat-resistant than ceramic, but you can still design the hearth as you like by putting the most heat-resistant tiles directly under the fire and, if it matches your style, add more decorative tiles further from the center of the fire.

Taking the time to properly prepare your tile backsplash before painting and treating it with care afterward is the best way to ensure its longevity. While the tile can last for the life of the home, you may have to repaint it after a few years. However, using only mild cleanser and water to keep it clean can maximize the paint's lifespan.

Like glass tiles, you will not need to seal most porcelain tiles, particularly if the porcelain is already glazed. It depends on quality. Porcelain is very water resistant, but it is not 100% waterproof. To avoid staining, some homeowners use a penetrating sealer. It is also a good idea to seal your grout. Unless you use epoxy grout, grout is very porous and can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew.

The best paints for shower tiles include epoxy, latex, or acrylic. Ideally, you should look for paints that are waterproof and mildew-resistant if you plan to paint shower or other bathroom tiles. You can even find waterproof paints made specifically for tiled surfaces, which will be the best option for shower tile paint that lasts as long as possible.

No, when done correctly, removing the tile shouldn’t damage the subfloor. However, if there was pre-existing damage to the subfloor from standard use or lack of maintenance, the subfloor may need repairs. For example, if the contractors notice mold growth on the subfloor or an uneven surface, you may need more extensive services before installing new tile.

If you DIY tile removal, remove the tiles one step at a time, individually removing the tile, grout, and mortar to prevent unnecessarily damaging the subfloor. Depending on the age of your home, consider having a professional inspect the subfloor to ensure it’s in good enough condition to lay new tile.
