"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Water damage always poses a primary risk of mold and mildew, but growth is not guaranteed. The chances of mold developing depend on several factors, including the severity of the damage and how quickly the area is cleaned and dried. To prevent mold, you must act quickly—ideally within the first 24 hours. Clean up all water and thoroughly dry the affected area. If the damage is extensive, you were unable to address it immediately, or you suspect mold has already started to grow, it is best to assume it is present and hire a professional mold inspector or removal expert to assess the situation.

While fiberglass dust is not generally considered toxic, inhaling the fibers can cause irritation to the respiratory system, eyes, and skin. Short-term exposure may lead to temporary discomfort, including coughing, throat irritation, and shortness of breath. However, prolonged or chronic exposure can result in more severe respiratory problems. Unlike asbestos, fiberglass is not associated with life-threatening illnesses. To minimize health risks when working with fiberglass materials, it is essential to use proper safety measures, such as wearing protective equipment like masks and goggles.

Pellet stoves burn compressed wood byproducts, making them very efficient and clean-burning. However, even efficient combustion still produces fine dust particles, which could have an effect on the health of vulnerable people in your household, such as infants and people with asthma. A wood stove pro can help determine whether the levels in your home are unsafe.

Yes, mold behind drywall can affect your health, even if it is not visible. Mold releases spores and mycotoxins into the air that can be inhaled, leading to various health issues including respiratory problems, allergies, asthma symptoms, coughs, and other infections. While individuals with pre-existing conditions like allergies, asthma, or weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable, anyone can be affected by prolonged exposure. Additionally, if left untreated, mold can spread throughout your home and compromise its structural integrity, resulting in costly repairs.

In most cases, cloudy tap water is safe to drink, as the cause is often harmless air bubbles. A simple test is to let a glass of water sit for a few minutes; if the cloudiness dissipates, it was likely just trapped air. However, you cannot be certain of the water's safety without knowing the cause or performing a water test. If the cloudiness is persistent, comes with yellow or brown discoloration, or is accompanied by plumbing issues, it may pose a health risk. In such cases, it is best to call a local plumber to find the cause.
