"Needed several room ceilings repainted. Steve and daughter, Hanna, came in at appointed time, moved existing furniture, took care to cover and protect areas; cleaned up well afterwards and replaced furniture back to original location. Two coats with nice finish; pleasant to work with."

"Mike and Crystal were very professional from the first phone contact through the completion of the work. They showed up on time, their work was neat and they worked very efficiently. My windows were in pretty bad shape. They really took their time and prepped them very well which showed in the finished product. When asked to redo or touch up anything it was done without question. In the end we received a very good paint job on a timely basis and at a competitive price. I have already recommended Mike's Painting to others in my neighborhood and would use him again for future painting needs.

"The owner Eric, responded to my request for an estimate quickly.  His final price was exactly what he said.  He told us the job would take about one week and it did.  There was some major drywall repair that needed to be done, as well as trim work.  The house looks amazing.  The paint job is clean with sharp cut edges and corners.  Eric and his workers were polite and on time.  They worked hard and put in a full day each day.  I would recommend and hire this company again in a heartbeat.

"I had the new porch painted and she also painted the trim on the entire exterior of the house. Excellent customer service with quality work. She has a keen eye for details and was very meticulous about delivering a quality job. I will definitely use her again and recommend her to everyone I know."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Yes, it matters which side of drywall you use. One side is smooth, and the other is rough. The smooth side should be facing outward, toward the room, while the rough side should be hidden and facing the studs and framing of the house. The smooth side will be easier to apply tape, joint compound, and, later, paint to.

When sanding drywall mud, you’re going to create a very fine dust that may contain silica. Silica dust contains crystalline silica, which can cause long-term illnesses for people who inhale it in significant quantities. Wear a mask while sanding drywall. Then dampen a drywall sponge to wipe the dust off the drywall, helping to reduce the amount of dust that may become airborne.

Most handy homeowners can tackle removing texture from unpainted walls. Removing texture from painted walls is a bit trickier. Paint acts as a sealant, so you can’t soften the texture with water. Instead, you’ll have to add a layer of drywall compound known as a skim coat. This process is messy and takes some practice.

If you’re installing new drywall, you may need to skim coat the drywall first for a smooth finish and to allow the primer to adhere to the wall. It’s only necessary if there are imperfections in your drywall due to issues with the studs or improper drywall installation. If you’re refreshing existing walls, you may want to skim coat if there are imperfections across the wall. As an alternative, you can repair your drywall and sand it for a smooth finish before painting.

Metal corners, often referred to as corner beads for square corners, are used on drywall installations to provide structural reinforcement to vulnerable outside corners. Their usage safeguards against chipping, denting, or other forms of damage, enhancing the overall durability of the wall. Metal corners also offer a precise and straight edge that facilitates sharp and clean lines, crucial for achieving a polished and professional finish.
