"The scheduler did not tell me I had to furnish materials, so wrapping porch columns in vinyl could not be done. I assumed quoted price included materials. It did not. The workman who did the other jobs (repairing stairs, cutting off a door, fixing an ill hanging door and repairing two cabinet hinges) did a good job. However the scheduler corrected the price and quoted $1257 for the work accomplished, which only took 6 hours. That is over $200 an hour. Happy with the work, unhappy with the price."

"Fantastic experience. Tony and his crew exceeded my expectations in the quality of their work and professionalism. He was able to repair a large rip in my living room carpet by stretching the carpet, cutting off the excess, and using it to make the repair. You'd never even know it had been damaged. Then he and his crew made a few other minor repairs and cleaned the carpet in my living room, stairs, and four bedrooms so that it looks good as new again. All this at an extremely reasonable price."

"We have been house hunting for about a year now and just can’t replace what we already have in our current sunny south Charlotte home. So we decided to make a major color shift from boring beige to gorgeous grey, and freshen up all doors & trim, remove all the decor and just stay put. Sounds good, but there are so many nail pops, nail holes, area’s where the sheet rock tape is lifting, wall “pimples” & cracks. Certainly beyond what we can do. We had 5 different companies come out for estimates. What a cast if characters! But one company stood out... From the initial meeting with Ben of Painting & Moore we were sold on Painting & Moore. And when the estimate came back, even more so! The team assigned to our job was fantastic! Guillermo, Darlene & Carlos showed up on time & ready to go EVERY DAY with smiles on! They were extremely respectful of our home and were patient with our “cranky” dogs. The quality of work goes beyond what we expected! No detail was too small as they worked methodically through our huge job. Ben stopped by daily to check in with us. I should mention, after the contract was signed I decided to wallpaper a room already included in the cost. Ben was not concerned about it at all. He swapped in some other items for us. (It was more then fair!) When you undertake a project like ours (whole house) that takes a full week, it’s important the work team enjoys what they are doing. Lets face it, you are sharing your home for 9 hrs a day. Painting & Moore has a pleasant staff. They smile throughout the work day, take pride in the work they do & quality workmanship they provide. It makes a huge difference! I highly recommend Painting & Moore!"

Justin takes a lot of pride in his work and has helped us on several occasions, some more complicated than others, but his troubleshooting skills and knowledge is reassuring that he can take on any task. Thanks for your hard work Justin - we look forward to working with you again soon."

Door Repair questions, answered by experts

In some cases, you can repair a cellar door instead of replacing it. Whether you can fix it depends on how severe the damage is. For instance, if you have a leaky cellar door, you can repair it by adding weather stripping and caulking it. You would need to fully replace it for more extensive problems, like rot due to severe water damage. A pro can help you determine whether you can repair your bulkhead door.

You put shims between the three-sided frame to which the door hinges are attached and the framing of the rough wall opening. Using shims like this will center your door in the wall opening and allows you to make small adjustments to get your door plumb and level for smooth operation. Your shims and the gap they fill will be covered when you install door trim, so don’t worry too much about the appearance.

To put your cabinet doors back on the hinges, first align the door with the hinge plates on the cabinet frame. Carefully slide the hinge pins on the door into the hinge cups on the frame, making sure they fit securely. Then, gently push the door into place until it’s flush with the cabinet frame. Finally, close the door to ensure it functions correctly and adjust the hinges if necessary.

Interior door thresholds are usually attached using finish nails, and some contractors will also use construction adhesive under the threshold to hold it in place. Exterior door thresholds are more commonly screwed to prevent them from pulling up when people step on the raised edge on the outside of the door. Exterior doors also include caulk sealant on the inside to prevent water and air from seeping through.

If you recently tightened screws to fix a loose doorknob, the issue is likely that you over tightened them. Doing so binds the turning mechanism, which will prevent your doorknob from bouncing back when you turn and release it. To fix this problem, loosen the mounting screws just a little so that the knob bounces back as expected but doesn’t wiggle. If this doesn’t fix the issue, try loosening the knob, centering it in the boring hole, and then tightening it.
