"I had 2 appointments cancelled by this vendor at the last minute. In my opinion, Willy was not happy at the small size of the job I wanted done. He was to contact me about scheduling the job by 6/6. I did not hear from him again until I sent him a message saying I was requesting a refund. Under the totality of circumstances I don't really want this vendor working on my house."

Small Appliance Repair questions, answered by experts

The cost to repair an appliance varies depending on the make, model, parts needing repair, and labor time to repair each kind of appliance. Labor costs may range from $40 to $120 per hour during business hours, but will likely increase on holidays and for emergencies outside of normal business hours. On average, common appliance repair costs include:

  • Dishwasher: $160–$300

  • Dryer: $100–$400

  • Freezer: $90–$500

  • Garbage disposal: $70–$250

  • Microwave: $50–$400

  • Oven, cooktop, range: $100–$500

  • Refrigerator: $200–$300

  • Washing machine: $50–$450

Professional setup takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour, ensuring functionality checks before completion. Technical issues may extend this timeframe.

Oven elements, despite being relatively inexpensive, can last between five and 10 years. Obviously this depends heavily on their usage and if they are kept clean and undamaged. Avoiding spills and cleaning your oven regularly can help extend its life.

Most local governments classify microwaves as hazardous household electronic waste items that are bad for the environment. This is why you could receive a fine for improperly disposing of a microwave in your normal curbside garbage collection or a landfill. Often, state law requires the hazardous components to be removed and safely disposed of before the item is recycled as scrap metal.

Costs depend on appliance age, issue complexity, part availability, and labor rates.
