"Al did a fantastic job! We had a very unusual project where we were turning a very small loft area into a bedroom space. He was friendly, quick to come out and give an estimate, and quick to get us scheduled. He kept things clean as he worked and along the way got feedback from us to ensure that the job was exactly as we wanted it. Al did quality work and used every minute efficiently the entire time he was onsite. Great experience all the way around!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Professional from receiving a quote to completion of job. Very satisfied with work done and would hire again for future jobs. He did what he said he would do and that in itself is rare these days. Also worked in a very short timeframe with excellent outcome."

"I had many things that needed to be done for updates on my home. So very pleased with the quality of all the services I received. Many items taken care of that I don't think he even charged me for. He is definately a professional and a perfectionist. Have used his services over the years and k ow that it will be done right and I can trust him completely. Did an awesome job on my fro t door, changed it from a double door to a single wide door, love it. Fixed a leak in my shower fixture that had been leaking for a long time. Had a double cabinet pantry, he built sliding drawers in both of them, love it! My time and new wider baseboard perfect!, very considerate of not leaving messes in between times of coming. Always trusted that whatever he would do would be done right. I was pleased with the cost of he did.

Doors questions, answered by experts

A well-installed storm door in good condition can increase your home's value. This upgrade is more than just an aesthetic change; it adds functionality, security, and insulation that can appeal to buyers. While it may not significantly raise the sale price on its own, a storm door improves curb appeal and can help attract more potential buyers. However, a shabby or poorly maintained one could have the opposite effect.

Plenty of building codes dictate what you must install in your home, but door sweeps are optional. However, they're a low-cost addition with many advantages. So, installing a sweep on all your exterior doors is in your best interest. You'll save money in the long run and stay more comfortable year-round.

The lock block will either be built-in on the side of the door or run from the top to the bottom. Usually, there is a marking that indicates its location. You can also tap the door with the back of a screwdriver to find the lock block like you would find a stud in a wall.

The vast majority of hinges are symmetrical, and either side of the hinge can go on the door or the frame. Occasionally, you'll find a hinge specifically made for right or left-handed doors with different attachment hardware or larger plates on one side. In most cases, the large side of the hinge goes on the frame.

It is possible to install hinges backward, so be careful when placing them. Position the hinge so that the hinge pin faces the direction the door will swing. For example, if you're standing on the side the door will open into, the pin should be visible. Be extra careful when installing exterior doors, as placing the hinges on the outside for an outward-facing door makes your home much easier to break into.

While both sides of a front door should get painted for aesthetic reasons, you don’t have to do each side at the same time. As a matter of fact, you’ll probably want a different paint type and color for the interior section of the door than the exterior side. Consider each side of the door your personal canvas and make the paint match any nearby decor.
