"Nikolai and Kevin with Gavin have all worked on our home in the Hemingway area of Georgetown County. We have had the panels inside/outside replaced, an outlet replaced, range and microwave rewired, a home and AC surge protector installed, re-routing of outlets to separate circuits that were constantly being overloaded, they are coming out again this coming Thursday of June 2026 and we still have more in the future as we save our funds in preparation. All the electricians have been professional, polite and thorough. I had some detailed questions at one point since we are having so much done to our house and new garage and they have answered them without fail. I would not have anyone else do the work. Thank you to Nikolai, Kevin and Gavin (team), Bobbie and Robert."

"The technician's (Tim and Chaun) that did the installing of my HVAC were courteous and professional. Tim made sure everything was working to his satisfaction before he left and told us he would check back in a day or so to make sure it was functioning properly. My wife and myself very pleased. I should also state two years ago we had a new HVAC installed by Swift and continually had problems with it. After many service calls with little luck correcting the issue, Swift installed a new unit. Five more stars to Swift for integrity!"

"Alex not only installed my 45 kw whole house generator with an automatic switch, he also upgraded our house service and installed a new 200 amp meter pan breaker panel. Itâ s so nice having the panel wired properly. No more breakers tripping!! He was on time, polite, respectful, and left the house cleaner than it was when he arrived."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Costs range from $500 to $2,500, depending on generator type and installation complexity.

Sizing a generator is a careful process that requires calculating the electrical load of your entire house. You have to take into account every device you want to use and their wattage requirements, plus the wattage needed to start them, and look for a generator that can safely run all that at around 80% capacity.

In more practical terms, a small home can run on a 10,000-watt generator (and if you only want to power a few key appliances, much less than that). A mid-sized home may need something between 15,000 and 22,000 watts. Larger homes require 25,000 watts or more.

The average cost to install a home generator is $5,200, but total costs can range from $500 to $18,000 or more. The final price depends on several factors, including the generator's size, type, brand, fuel source, and the cost of labor and assembly. The generator's size is the most significant cost factor, as units that can power larger homes with higher energy demands cost more.

Cost breakdowns by generator type are typically as follows:

  • Portable or Emergency Backup Generators (1kW–7.5kW): $500–$2,000

  • Partial-Home Generators (9kW–20kW): $2,000–$6,500

  • Whole-House Generators (22kW–48kW): $5,000–$18,000

To ensure you get the right size unit for your needs without overpaying, consider hiring an electrician to calculate the electrical load of your essential appliances. It is also recommended to get at least three quotes from qualified installers to find the best fit for your budget.

You can expect a diesel generator to last for up to 30,000 hours of use, which works out to 20 to 25 years with the proper maintenance, of course. That depends on how much you use it, so a diesel generator used for emergencies a couple of times a year will last a lot longer than a generator that takes over for a faulty electrical grid every month for a day or two.

To reduce AC startup power for a whole-house generator, install a soft start kit or hard start capacitor, which lowers the initial surge by gradually ramping up the compressor. Using a smart load manager can also help by staggering startup loads, preventing a system overload and future costly repairs.
