"Where do I start? Juan & his crew did an absolutely incredible job with our new floors. It was a stone laminate that he laid. He was always on time & he truly is the hardest worker I know. I’ve already referred him to 2 other friends, who hired him as well. 100% would recommend him to anyone!!"

Customers say: Quick response

"We were buying a 1940 home and decided to have the oak floors refinished before we moved in. I contacted several companies and Chris from Columbia Flooring was the first to call me back. He sounded very professional and knowledgeable. I had read about a process where you just lightly sand/add a coat of poly, without doing the full refinishing job. Chris met me at the house to see the floors and provide an estimate. By then, I had gotten two other quotes for this quick sand/add poly process without either of those companies coming to look at the floors. Chris talked to me about the cleaning materials that have been used on the floors, which I had no info on. So, doing the quick sand/poly could be a disaster. We decided to have him completely refinish them. After listening to us, he helped us pick Golden Oak as our stain after leaving us a few options. The house was left pretty clean, considering all the sanding. Our new floors are so beautiful! Hire Chris at Columbia Flooring!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

In Lexington, unexpected flooring costs often arise from subfloor repairs due to moisture or pest damage, especially in older homes. You may also need to address floor leveling, install vapor barriers, or adjust HVAC systems to manage humidity. Additional expenses can include permits, premium labor during busy seasons, transition strips, and delivery fees for specialty flooring materials from local suppliers.

Helpful?

Signs that flooring work in your Lexington home may need redone include persistent squeaks, uneven or bouncy areas, and visible gaps at seams or transitions. Watch for water stains near vents, musty odors, or boards that cup or buckle. Cracks that follow settling or soft spots underfoot also suggest underlying issues that a qualified flooring contractor should assess.

Helpful?

For Lexington’s humid climate, engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, and porcelain tile are top choices for durability and moisture resistance. Select products with waterproof cores and UV protection for sun-exposed rooms. High-quality vapor barriers and underlayments are essential. Avoid solid hardwood or standard laminate without moisture protection, as they’re more likely to warp or swell in local conditions.

Helpful?

Your Lexington home is ideal for new flooring if the foundation is stable, crawl spaces are dry with vapor barriers, and drainage directs water away from the structure. Consistent indoor humidity and manageable sunlight exposure also help. Homes with older subfloors may need extra prep, so a flooring contractor’s assessment is recommended before starting installation, especially in historic properties.

Helpful?

In Lexington, proper subfloor preparation and acclimation of materials to local humidity are crucial for lasting flooring installation. Using moisture barriers and choosing engineered flooring or tile helps resist seasonal changes. Consistent indoor humidity control, professional installation, and scheduling work during drier months all contribute to long-term durability and minimize future flooring repairs.
