"They were excellent. They quickly made a draft that only needed 3 minor adjustments. The final product was exactly what I needed. They referred me to a structural engineer for review. The whole process took half of the time that they initially estimated. I would definitely use them again."

"I hired Joe Calvo to help give me a structural review of the home I was buying and he did a great job. He was on-time, extremely knowledgeable about the issues I was facing and really helped me understand how to mitigate the issue. Very professional and just a nice guy. Highly recommend him."

"Outdoor Artisan is as professional as they come. What i look for more than anything else in a contractor is communication skills. If a contractor cannot excel at communication then clients are not going to be happy. Outdoor Artisan was in contact with us every day of this project, even when we were out of town. We knew what was happening, who was coming and going and what they hoped to achieve each week of the project. In addition to the owner, Clive Newey, we worked with Jason Humphrey, our project manager. Jason has a very artistic mind, and was always suggesting ideas to enhance and build upon what we happen to be thinking about at the time; the stain color, ways to finish the structure with elegant trim, the cupola on top and the corner braces. We highly recommend Outdoor Artisan for any outdoor structure, hardscape or landscape project."

"Kyle with Carolina Engineering and Inspection was a pleasure to work with! He contacted me promptly and inspected an issue found from a home inspection. He did a thorough inspection and found that it was not a issue. Additionally, Kyle was very personable, knowledgeable, and made the payment process very easy for my clients who werenâ t local to Charlotte. I would definitely recommend Kyle for any structural inspection needs you may have!"

"Work went great, especially considering design changes needed as work progressed. Have used Chris Havey in the past, and certainly will turn to him again for future work.

Great care was taken to both protect surrounding areas and to minimize disruption in our household.

All who have seen the new baths are very much impressed."

"We thought we had foundation problems and contacted CNT for an estimate on repairs. ED VanOsdol came out at the specified
time to give us a quote. Ed generated a computerized lay out of the structure of the house and then crawed under the house and made pictures of the structure. He indentified one problem area which was minor and a potential problem area. He explained
what was happening to the foundation and because it was so minor, he told me how I could fix it myself. I told him that I would
pay for the inspection, but he said it was not necessary. If I ever do have problems with my foundation, I will certainly use them
for the repairs. I would recomend CNT to everyone. They are very professional and honest.

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Indications include cracks in walls, uneven floors, and sticking doors or windows that suggest foundation movements.

A structural engineer’s report is almost always worth it, as it can help you avoid buying or overpaying for a home with structural issues. The most important thing the report does for you is provide peace of mind that you won’t have to pay thousands of dollars for structural repairs right after closing on a property.

Yes, an LVL beam is more affordable than the cost of a steel I-beam, totaling between $50 and $200 per linear foot as opposed to the $100 to $400 per linear foot you’d pay for a steel I-beam. Not only is the wood material more affordable than steel, but it’s also more similar to traditional wooden beams and doesn’t require as much retrofitting to connect joists.

The essential difference between an architect and an engineer is that architects typically focus more on the aesthetic design of buildings, although not without consideration for the structural integrity of the building. Engineers focus more on the structural, technical, and practical aspects of whether and how an architectural design can be built as drawn. You may need to hire both types of professionals if you’re designing and building a new home.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.
