"From the moment they arrived you could tell you were in good hands. Our problem started with having an issue where multiple outlets in our kitchen suddenly stopped working. We found someone who claimed to be an electrician on Facebook. $125 later and nothing but a proposal for a $500 job that he didn't know if he could even do.   • Rooms smaller than 75 square feet require a fan that is 29 to 36 inches.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

Manufacturers of ceiling fan-rated boxes must indicate on the box that the unit is for that purpose. To check your model, remove the light fixture and look inside the box for wording that says it’s rated for fan use. If you don’t see words saying so, it likely needs to be replaced with an appropriate one that is rated for use with a ceiling fan.

Ceiling fans provide a number of advantages for your home. They help circulate air throughout your home to avoid stagnant environments, and they can help lower utility bills if they keep you from switching on your air conditioning. Between built-in lighting and modern styling, ceiling fans can also add aesthetic appeal to your space.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.
