"In attic: contained the area using plastic sheet....; continuously operated HEPA air filter in house to avoid mold infiltration during entire process; dry brushed and HEPA vacuumed mold areas; applied EPA registered anti-microbial to affected areas; blow dried treated areas; HEPA vacuum treated areas to ensure removal of treated spores; applied EPA registered Mold Sealer to treated areas.
In basement: HEPA vacuumed, applied anti-microbial and sealed with fungicidal sealer all affected areas.
The tasks were performed in a thorough, careful, professional manner.  I was completely satisfied with the work done.

"Vista has come to our house, especially a particular gentleman. Really knowledgeable, very professional. They do several different things. I have had them out to do estimates on gutters. We have not hired them for anything. To give you an idea, when they've come out I was very happy to open the door and see it was the same guy that has come several times to do several things. I interview several people. Not only did he come, and it's a little confusing to me because it has to do with ventilation and insulation, and excuse my language but there is a whole freaking science to this thing, but the owner actually came out. Not only did they keep in communication by computer, the owner actually came out and reinforced the whole education and what needs to be done. I was really thrilled with that. I thought that was beyond the call of duty. I am sorry I was not able to go with them, but I would certainly say as far as customer service relationship, excellent. The information was excellent. Not bothered by the fact that he had to come out more than one time for the same kind of information. I've never had the opportunity to hire them. But I've never been disappointed. They will take the time, they will talk to you, they will educate you, and they will actually give you the best price they can possibly give you. I got educated so that when my  husband came home I could explain to him what is going on. I can't rate their work, but as far as their generosity of time and caring, it's off the charts. I don't know about price because this is a whole new area to me. They were amazing. I have to tell you I have had them out several times as I said, it's Vista Home Improvements so they do several things, but I feel kind of bad that I am yet to hire them. I am trying to think exactly where Vista is out of, but for the owner to com about to your house. We're talking about a wrap around attic. We are talking about getting on your hands and knees and crawling around."

"Roberto was the technician and he was very professional, polite, and personable. He inspected the rest of our system and told us things that needed to be changed or repaired. He showed me pictures of everything. Everything he told me about was accurate. He quoted me a price for R38 insulation , Some of our ducts were plastic and he recommended them to be changed. I agreed completely and didn't know they were plastic. I would have had them done the work but I had no price comparisons to make and besides I didn't have the money right then. So he just finished the vent cleaning and left his card. He did a great job on the vent cleaning and was happy with the work."

"The gas company came in to replace a meter.  They found that the vinyl siding company we used in the past had cut and covered the safety valve.  The one night that it's super cold out, the gas company had to shut off our gas (heat)!! I called Richard at 9:00pm.  He got back to me first thing in the morning and had his crew take care of it by 7:30am.  They are really THE BEST!!  The gas company is here now and hopefully we'll have heat soon."

"I have nothing but great things to say about this company! They went above and beyond to help me. I found them on Angie's List in the fall when my roof was leaking pretty badly, and they had excellent ratings. As I tried to get financing, they stayed in touch with me and even made suggestions for a lender. By December, my bedroom ceiling was leaking a steady stream of water. They put a tarp on it at no cost just before Christmas (what a nice Christmas gift)! Then, in February, I had gotten funding but it wouldn't stop snowing. Another bedroom ceiling started leaking where the tarp didn't cover the roof. One of the owners came right over to help me manage the leak inside my house, and he offered more advice when I called him later. Then, the workers came within 2 days to do the roof. It was a brutal time to replace my roof - the roof itself was covered with more than a foot of snow and ice, my yard was buried in snow, and it was unbelievably cold. My neighbor told me they worked long into the dark. Once they got on the roof, the owner explained to me what they were going to do - the work changed from the original estimate but the price was the same. It took them 2 days instead of one, only because their vendor didn't deliver the tiles when he was supposed to. They cleaned up well, you couldn't see any debris after they were done. However, many of the nails and some roofing material got buried in the snow so as it melts, I'm finding them and picking them up. But that's not the company's fault - as a side note, I would not recommend replacing your roof in winter if you can help it! I could tell immediately that I trusted this company after talking to the owner - sometimes you have to go with your gut - and I was right. I am recommending this company to everyone I know."

FAQs for insulation service projects in Richmond, RI

When choosing a professional insulation installer, consider asking these questions to determine the best fit.

  • Will you address air leaks in my house?

  • Can you provide an R-value (heat resistance) fact sheet?

  • What kind of insulation will work best for my home?

  • How do you handle signs of a water leak?

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • Can you provide customer references?

The best type of insulation for your home depends on what you need, so the answer will depend on your specific situation. If you’re building a house, structural panels are easy to install during the building process in addition to being the most energy efficient type. If you live in a warm climate, reflective insulation may benefit you more as it costs less than other insulation types. And for standard attics, loose-fill, spray foam, or blown-in insulation work well.

If you plan to heat or cool your garage, you’ll need to insulate the garage ceiling. Insulating your garage ceiling will make your garage much more energy efficient and save on heating and cooling costs. Not only does insulation make your garage more energy efficient, it helps reduce noise and can extend the life of your garage roof. You can use fiberglass, cellulose, mineral wool, or spray foam insulation for this project.

In some cases, you may not have enough insulation to properly regulate your home’s temperature. Watch for a few signs your home needs more insulation, such as:

  • High heating and cooling bills

  • Uncomfortable room temperatures

  • Ice dams on the edge of your roof

  • Roof leaks

  • Cold floors and walls

  • Freezing pipes

  • Temperature fluctuations

  • Visibly low insulation

  • Noise problems

  • Pest problems

On average, insulating an attic costs about $2,500, ranging from $1,500 to $3,500, depending on the insulation type, amount, and your attic’s accessibility. Additional cost factors include sealing air leaks, removal or replacement of insulation, and inspections. Types of insulation include:

  • Blown-in: $1–$4 per square foot

  • Spray foam: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Batt: $2–$4 per square foot

  • Structural insulated panels: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Loose-fill: $2–$5 per square foot

  • Reflective: $0.50–$1.50 per square foot
