We were directed to RISE though Massave for the Home energy assessment and weatherization to receive the rebate offered with the whole home rebate. The inspector did not detect asbestos located throughout our attic, where our air handler is located, during his assessment. Once we got our new electric heat pump and mini split system installed, we had RISE send out their subcontractor to do the weatherization - only to find out from the installers we in fact have asbestos in our attic and the work could not be completed. Now that we have already have the new equipment installed at our home, we can’t get the weatherization completed until we pay, out of pocket, for the asbestos removal. Additionally, the new equipment was installed with the specifications for insulation that was supposed to occur in the contract I signed with RISE and shared with my HVAC installers- so I am likely to develop mold if I do not complete the necessary insulation. If I would have know this process would cost an additional $10k I would not have chosen to “save” on my energy efficiency. The people and leadership at RISE are beyond incompetent and just beware they tend to overlook details, like doing their job. I was given a lot of apologies and condolences from RISE following this discovery but that means Jack squat when I’m left holding the bag and figuring out where to go from here.

We had our free Rise energy audit done this past summer and it went well. They went through the entire house replacing light bulbs and checking to see if our home was "leaky." Our home is a 1950's ranch with no insulation in walls or attic. They recommend we spray insulation in the attic and walls to lower utility costs. We agreed and Rise had Retrofit Insulation do the job. Everything seemed to go well when they did the attic. Installers were professional and clean. However, the next day was a complete mess. They sprayed the insulation into the walls before checking to see if we had any open holes or cracks. They did ask me if the walls were strong and I told them they were plaster and that I wasn't sure. They finished the job and went on there way. Later in the evening I open my sink cabinet only to get hit with a face full of raw insulation. The cabinet was covered with it. I called the project inspector and they came to clean it up. However, we found more insulation in the bathroom fan and in the baseboard heaters. I'm worried to turn on the heat this winter. Our homes air quality is terrible now and I really think they should have educated the us the homeowners better on the side effects of this insulation. We also don't know what's in our walls. The contract says it's blown cellulose but the company's website says it rock wool. Which one is it? On top of that multiple sites are now saying that if your home has plaster walls you should never blow in insulation in them. Apparently they can absorb moisture from inside the home and cause mold, insects and dry rot. I wish I never agreed to this insulation. Now I just wasted money to ruin my home and it will cost more money to remove it. Get the energy audit but stop there and do your research before you agree to do any work with them. Wish I did.

They work in conjunction with National Grid to evaluate home energy use and possible ways to bring the home to optimum energy efficiency. On their initial visit the technician did a complete home energy audit, and replaced all of our incandescent bulbs with LEDs. The report indicated that additional insulation was needed in various sections of our home, as well as suggestions to address other less pressing issues. We were provided with a detailed estimates for each recommendation option available. We selected the option that best fit our needs and financial limits. They then connected us with an insulation contractor. We agreed on a date with the contractor. RISE oversaw the project with a technician meeting with the contractor and me prior to the start of work. The RISE representative returned early afternoon and again once the work was completed. All of the contractor's work was thoroughly inspected and approved by the RISE technician. RISE conducted a final energy audit of our home and provided us with a detailed before and after comparison report. The contractor and his team were highly professional in their work and conversations with me, as were each of the RISE employees we dealt with. The reason I elected to go through RISE in the first place was my concern over selecting a competent, honest and professional contractor who would do quality work at a fair price. RISE certainly delivered that and more.

It was a tremendous inconvience to our office. They made little effort to adjust to our patient schedule. They left pieces of wire everywhere. They left messes in halways. They carried on personnal conversations with our clients in the area. They had 30 minutes left to finnish but stopped working a 3pm and now have to return to disrupt our office again.

They came out to do an inspection and came out again to reinspect. We are scheduling work with them over the next couple of weeks and will be following their recommendations.

Because it's a multi-unit they have to have permission from the executive board which is me and 4 other people the offer to come in and insulate the units. Each individual or unit don't have to pay up to a maximum of like $272. They come in, they throw 9.5 inches of insulation in your attic, they air seal everything in your garage and basement so that no air can leak in or out that's not supposed to. Obviously our heating system needs a vent to vent out into the atmosphere but the rest of it you should not be having any weather stripping problems with the doors. They did phenomenal work. Since I've done it in July I noticed that my air conditioner is not running to beat the band and I'm pretty sure right now I've been chilly all day and I've just had the doors closed and the windows closed. My heat did not need to kick on, my home is holding the temperature. They also give you energy efficient light bulbs, new thermostat, programmable thermostat which is like an $80 item. They do a power strip for your TV and stuff you want on all the time and the rest of it is on standby so that you're saving energy. So far I've noticed huge change even in my invoicing from the utility companies. They are phenomenal in professionalism. I was amazed at what they did and I actually wrote a commendation to the company stating what fabulous work and the workers are so polite, very courteous, respectful and professional. I'm very impressed with the work that they've done here in the property. I would highly recommend them for other complex or private homes.

Three Rise guys arrived at our house on time to do the energy assessment on 5/29/14. They were all really nice and thorough. They offered recommendations that we could do ourselves, along with the estimate for improvements. The price was really good so we decided to do it. While they were there for our energy assessment, they tested everything from our stove to looking at our boiler. The "light guy" went through our house and changed our light bulbs to more energy efficient ones. He also left us a brush for cleaning the back of our refrigerator, two surge protectors and extra light bulbs--all free.
The work they recommended came to $2227, but with the National Grid program incentive, the work cost us $1145. We decided it was a good deal and went ahead with it--an additional 9 inches of insulation in our attic, installing eight ventilation chutes in our rafters, installing an exhaust hose from our bathroom fan to vent to roof instead of into our attic and weatherstripping. The company contracted by Rise--Thermal Energy--called a few days after I sent in the signed contract and we were able to get an appointment a week later, whIch surprised me. It took a few hours for them to do the work--in the pouring rain. They even sprayed foam insulation in the unfinished parts of our basement. Nice people. Good experience.

The people that work at Rise are there for their customers to make sure they feel good about their property. They want to make sure you at satisfied and if you find anything wrong, they will come right back to make it right. They work with the energy company to help make homes more energy efficient.

I signed a contract with Rise to do the work since they take care of all the paper work with National Grid not realizing that Rise subcontracts out the actual work to what has to be the lowest bidder. It took the subcontractor three visits to get the work to pass the National Grid standard for reimbursement. Rise billed me before the Rise inspectors even passed the work done by their subcontractors. Upon calling, I was told to ignore the bill and that I would be rebilled once the work was passed. A bill never came, but I did get a notice that my account was sent to a collections agency for being past due. Upon calling Rise, I was told the resent bill was sent to the wrong address?!?! I have only ever had one address on file with the company. I would recommend having the audit done since it is free, but choose your own contactor to do the actual work. You get what you pay for.

The only negative I can think of is that it takes quite awhile between getting the initial audit done and getting the project finished. But this is a "good thing" as it means that more people are taking advantage of these ways to make their homes more energy-efficient.

They are contracted by National Grid to do a energy evaluation. We had them come out and while they are here they check insulation, lighting, and heating efficiency. They replace light-bulbs for free, added foam to our hot water heater pipes and gave us a refrigerator brush. They also let us know how much it would cost to replace insulation and weatherize our home. It is such a nice program and one everyone should take advantage of.

They came here in during the big year when everybody did work on their houses to save energy. I had them come in almost a year before. I called because I knew they did wonderful energy work. They looked around and told me what they would do and charge, and it was very reasonable. Verizon got on board with them, which was even better because we had to pay half the amount. They had four Guatemalan men, and the men were joking about themselves because they were short. I'm assuming legal, but whether they were or not, they worked like demons. They were very professional, careful, and considerate. They had obviously been really well-trained. We easily saved $1,000 in heat this winter, which is pretty amazing. The price was fantastic.
