"His work was done in a timely manner and the yard looked good once it was completed. However, he gave me a quote based on two inches of mulch to help keep weeds from returning. I also agreed to have him spray an organic weed killer in the stone areas to prevent weeds from coming up. While walking in the garden I noticed there were bare spots in the garden where there should have been mulch and where there was mulch it was not two inches. There were also weeds coming up, which he did explain he might have to come back to do a second application at cost. When I called him about the mulch, he explained that he underestimated the amount of mulch needed. But instead of talking to me about it before he left the job, he waited for me to call him about it. When we did speak, he said he could come in and put down more mulch at cost. At that point I decided to not have him return."

"They are listed as doing work on Newport. I sent them a request in May, no response. I requested again in September, and they stated they do work in Newport. After a week, they decided they won't go out to my address in Newport, which is near the heart of town. Just be relatively consistent and professional in answering your email, managing expectations, especially if you state your services are available."

"The contractors did a great job! The came on time, were very polite, and really listened to what we needed to have done. They removed several overgrown bushes, trimmed other bushes, and removed a VERY large stump. They spent a long time trimming a crabapple tree in the front yard and consulted us while they worked to make sure we were happy!"

"My lawn was in need of serious help in the front and backyard. Aerate, dethatch, seeding, soil prep, pebble removal, and filling depressions in the yard were performed. The work was performed on schedule, pricing is great, and I am already seeing results. I highly recommend."

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Yes, you need to use landscape fabric under your rubber mulch. Rubber mulch doesn’t decompose, so putting landscape fabric down can work as a barrier between your mulch and soil, preventing your mulch from mixing with your soil and leaching chemicals like aluminum, cadmium, and copper into it. Also, since weeds can occasionally get through rubber mulch, using landscape fabric as a second form of protection can increase its effectiveness.

Weeds can grow through rubber mulch, but it depends on if you removed all the weeds in your garden beforehand. Weeds already in the soil can grow even when using rubber mulch. However, that doesn’t mean that your garden will be littered with rubber and weeds, but it does mean that the occasional weed might still pop up. Another way you can increase your weed suppression is by using landscape fabric as a second layer.

Pea gravel is a type of gravel that is generally smaller and rounder than regular gravel. It's usually made from river rock and is available in a wide range of colors. Thanks to its soft, round shape, pea gravel is more comfortable to walk on compared to standard gravel, which can have sharp edges. A drawback of pea gravel is that it can scatter more easily than other gravel types.

Food-grade diatomaceous earth is a natural product that comes from diatoms—fossilized aquatic organisms from tens of millions of years ago. Food-grade diatomaceous earth is considered "natural," while pool or filter-grade diatomaceous earth has been treated and transformed to have higher crystalline silica content.

Yes, rotting leaves can be good for your soil. The decaying leaves release nutrients into the soil that can boost the health of your plants, and the organic matter also helps improve airflow and water drainage.
