"I thought my thermostat needed replacement because it had a blank screen and had stopped working. After contacting Slade through Angie’s List, he called to set up an appointment and was able to come the same day of contact. I was very happy about that because it was very hot, as usual, when your air goes out. Slade was very punctual even though he had to travel during rush hour to make the appointment and was very professional and courteous. He tried various technical methods to isolate the problem and was determined to find the source as he explained every step of the way of what he was doing to my husband. In the process of locating the cause of the stoppage, he dismantled the heat pump, located and repaired the problem, and made preventive recommendations for future use. I also asked about the condition of my heat pump since it’s at least 20 years old and although he said it was still doing good, he said there were newer models that would perform better than the unit we currently have. I do intend to use Slade again before the end of the year to replace my current heat pump."

"Excellent service, very fast response to my request for service, picked up laptop, diagnosed issues. Initially thought it was an OS update issue but the hard drive had failed along with other components (including 'CPU). Because other components were involved, a new solid state hard drive was put into a laptop with a working processor - same type CPU as in the failed unit. The laptop was repaired and returned in less than a week. This company picked up and dropped off the laptop (driving from Huntsville, AL (about 60-70 minutes)-- great service in this covid environment. I would recommend this company to my family./friends and will use again."

"They were a bunch of super nice guys and they were both very kind and quick to get the job done. I felt that they had my family's best interest in mind and they were always up front with price quotes so there was no surprises. I will definitely have them come out this fall to continue with fixing some ducts. They were very professional and very polite. I would recommend them to anyone! I was amazed at how skilled they were in many areas of home maintenance and they gave me good advice on how to improve the efficiency of my furnace and AC. Thanks again!"

Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The simplest indicator is how long it’s been since your last tune-up. You should schedule an annual AC tune-up each spring. Beyond that, there are multiple signs that your AC needs a quick check by a professional. These issues include higher-than-average energy bills, decreased air flow from vents, higher indoor temperatures, and an air conditioning unit that stays on all the time or frequently turns on and off.

It depends on the type of AC unit and the extent of the mold growth. For example, if you have a small amount of mold in your central air conditioner, it’s worth cleaning it to protect your HVAC system and your health. In situations like these, you can often remove the mold yourself in a couple of hours. On the other hand, if you have a portable AC unit with a severe mold problem, it makes more sense to buy a new one. On average, replacing a portable AC unit costs $100 to $500.

Yes, a frozen AC unit can affect your indoor air quality since the reduced airflow won't be as effective at removing air pollutants, like dust and other allergens. Additionally, ice around the unit can create excess moisture, leading to mold and mildew that can damage your home if you don’t catch it early.

If you’re looking for a portable, budget-friendly cooling solution that doesn’t require any venting or installation, a ventless AC system is a good option. Similarly, this is a great choice if you’re renting an apartment or home and aren’t allowed to make large, structural changes like installing comprehensive HVAC, or you’re in a shared space and only need to cool your own room.

An undersized whole-house generator has the potential to overheat and shut down when you try to run a central AC system. This scenario can not only damage the whole-house generator, but can also trip your home’s breakers or cause electrical damage. To avoid this situation, hire a local generator installer to correctly size your whole-house generator.
