Customers say: Quick response

"Gary Gordon was professional and super friendly! I purchased a house with a central vacuum which I did not know how to use or if the unit was in good condition. Gary visited our home within 24 hours of speaking by phone! He inspected the unit and all hoses and parts. Gary also taught me how to use the system and all its attachments. I would absolutely recommend Gordon Vacuum Sales & Services."

"The front porch light went in without any problems.  The ceiling fan was a different story however, since we have an 100+ year old house with plaster.  The existing light fixture, was close to being a fire hazard, so we got that out in the nick of time.  Jerry (the tech) did a good job in making sure the fixture was up and installed correctly and sturdy.  He kept us informed of everything he was doing which we very much appreciated.  We bought the deal of $99 for 2 hours of electrical service, but since there were issues with our kitchen fixture, he charged us an extra $80 since he was there longer than 2 hours and we found that price to be more than fair.
We will use MRH Electrical for any future work.

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

The disadvantages associated with central vacuums start with cost. They are expensive to install, especially in existing homes, as retrofitting requires opening walls. The system's bulky hoses can also be inconvenient to maneuver and store compared to portable vacuums. Additionally, repairs may need professional service, adding to maintenance costs. Lastly, while powerful, they may be overkill for smaller homes or apartments, making the investment less practical for some households.

Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.

The cost to install a central vacuum cleaner system averages about $1,600, ranging from $1,100 to $2,200, depending on the size of the system, add-on features, your home’s location, and age of the system. Accessibility to running lines and other equipment can also impact the project cost. Consult a central vacuum cleaner installation company for an accurate estimate of your installation cost.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

Yes, installing a central vacuum system typically adds value to your home. The ease of use, longevity, and superior suction power of a central vacuum system can add up to $2,000 to your home’s value if you decide to sell. Potential buyers may consider the central vacuum a perk to purchasing your home.
