"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"The addition that he designed and built was an excellent solution to our problem. It is both functionally sound (with a heater, fan and windows) and aesthetically pleasing (it matches the architecture of the rest of our house). O’Dell Contracting also repaired and replaced damaged paneling in our first-floor home office while doing an outstanding job of matching the existing wood stain. Other aspects of the repair project included drywall repair and replacement of carpeting and tile in two additional rooms which were also impacted. I recommend O’Dell Contracting Inc. without reservation! Dean O’Dell definitely takes an active interest in making sure that the repair job is done in a quality and timely manner."

",Galen & his crew did a great job on all of the work he did for me.  I had made a few changes in what I wanted done and Galen worked them all in for me.  The deck and porch staining, power-washing and retaining wall has really enhanced the look of my home.  I am very happy with all work Galen & his crew did.

"This was a fantastic experience. My initial call for a bid was responded to very quickly. The work did take longer than initially planned, but this was because the prep needed was pretty intensive. Communication was easy and the work faultless. Adaptations that hat to be made because of a 100+ year old house were easily and fairly discussed and negotiated. I was so comfortable with them right away, they had a key to the house. The only possible reason I would not want to recommend them, is that you will read this and want to hire them.... and then I will have trouble getting scheduled with the rest of my projects! They use only Sherwin Williams, which should tell you their professionalism and goal to make the completed project last a long time."

"Philip was responsive and started the job more quickly than I expected. It took him a little longer than he initially estimated to me, but we requested special wood (a more ecologically produced pressure treated lumber) and so there was some time in getting and adjusting to the new materials. His crew worked hard and did not appear to cut corners anywhere. They clearly care about their work."

"My husband bought a house three years ago and were waiting for the right estimate to upgrade 70's style kitchen. We had three other estimates. After going to the home show, we decided to get an estimate from BKG. The first impression said it all. The different granite samples were overwhelming. We left the home show with our cabinets and granite already picked out with the help of Noelle. The quality of the cabinets exceed expectations as well as the attentiveness of Noelle. She not only designed our kitchen but also helped us pick out our floor. We highly recommend that if you are interested in renovating your kitchen, make a trip to BKG and ask for Noelle."

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Modular homes are a type of prefab home. Specifically, manufacturers first build modular homes in sections and then deliver them to the job site. The modules, or sections, are usually at least 70% finished before they arrive on your property.

In comparison, prefab homes arrive in panels or segments, and workers assemble them on-site. Generally speaking, modular homes tend to be more durable, and their consistent construction standards may mean you’ll have an easier time getting conventional home loans.

No, a structural engineer is not the same as a builder. A structural engineer is an expert in all things related to the structural integrity of a building. The structural engineer is responsible for calculating the correct materials in terms of load-bearing capacity and overall structural safety. Structural engineers do not perform the actual building of the house or other structures. Rather, the builder executes the plans and designs specified by the structural engineer.

Renovating or remodeling an existing structure is usually less expensive than the cost to build a new house. That’s because you can save on the costs of new building materials, laying a foundation, framing the entire building, and installing new materials and utilities throughout the house. However, if a home is in very poor condition or is incredibly old, you could spend more on upgrades and restoration compared to building from scratch.

In most states, you can build an in-law suite on your property as long as you follow local building codes. However, it's important that you have enough space on your property to accommodate the new structure. A functional in-law suite in your backyard will require between 300 and 800 square feet of space.

One starting point to find a local home builder is to collect suggestions from friends and neighbors. However, it’s still wise to do some more research before you hire a builder. Read reviews to supplement any word-of-mouth recommendations. Check sources like Angi that have standards and criteria in place to screen the pros it lists can also help you find more reputable local home builders.
