"Utilizing All Service Moving for the move was a very positive experience. They had good communication, answering several questions prior to the move and did a final confirmation just prior to the move date. As for the physical move itself, Jose, Abraham, and Alberto were polite, diligent, and careful moving the many items, and managed to complete the move more quickly than anticipated."

"I have used We Move Philly many times to help my children move in and out of apartments, both in-state and out-of-state, and they have been exceptional every time. They are punctual, professional, and make every move run smoothly. Their team packs and unpacks quickly and efficiently, taking great care with everything. Once, when We Move wasn’t available, I used another mover and several items were damaged because the truck wasn’t packed properly. I called We Move Philly in tears, explaining that I still had a long drive ahead to New York City. They came right away, repacked the truck, and made sure everything was secure so I could continue my move safely. When my daughter needed to move between apartments in New York, We Move handled it for less than any local mover I contacted—and they even provided their own truck, so I didn’t need to rent a U-Haul. I truly can’t recommend We Move Philly enough. They do an incredible job and make the entire moving process stress-free."

Moving questions, answered by experts

Most professional movers can provide a wide range of moving-related services, and you’ll need to pick and choose which ones you want to use. Examples of common services offered include the following:

  • Organizing and packing your belongings

  • Protecting delicate items with bubble wrap or other protective equipment

  • Moving your belongings and furniture out of your old home

  • Moving your belongings into your new home within a certain distance

  • Unpacking your belongings in the new location

  • Moving heavy items, like pianos

  • Moving your vehicles

  • Storage if your new home isn’t ready

Planning ahead is essential—this will give you the chance to coordinate your move during weekends or after business hours, and set up essential services in your new office before moving day to minimize downtime. Start by creating a detailed timeline and checklist for every phase of the move, from packing to unpacking. Inform your employees, clients, and vendors about the move well in advance, including any expected disruptions and how you plan to manage them. Delegate responsibilities to ensure all aspects of the move are covered. Lastly, set up the essentials at the new location first to resume operations quickly.

If you’re using a moving company, the best move in date typically occurs on a weekday in the middle of the month between September and April. Mid-month moves on weekdays are less popular and therefore less costly, and the weather will usually be less severe in the fall or spring. However, if staying on budget is your priority, a mid-month move on a weekday in the winter is your best bet at finding the best deal.

It is certainly possible to move a piano without hiring movers, but it’s not recommended. Not only will you need at least four people to lift and maneuver the piano, but getting it around tight corners and down flights of stairs might not be possible without the help of movers. Plus, pianos are exceptionally heavy and bulky, which means you and any helping hands are at risk of injury, as well as an increased risk of damaging your piano. Ultimately, it’s always worth it to call in a professional piano mover.

Renting a moving truck or using a shipping container (or moving pod) are typically the cheapest ways to move long-distance. For moving a few items, a container can cost as little as $700. Renting a standard-sized moving truck averages between $1,200 and $2,100. For longer distances, moving pods can become more cost-effective, as you can ship the pod to your destination and avoid transportation costs like gas, mileage, and lodging.
