"Steve and his crew are very friendly and excellent painters. They painted our entire house in approximately 41/2 days, which was amazing! We got 5 quotes and Steve was the lowest among them. He definitely had a more laid back approach than other companies, which we liked. However, that style also translated into his quote, which was less specific than others. We did feel there was a slight rush to complete the job. We discovered some of the furniture supports we're twisted or bent from beds and dressers being moved back quickly. Overall, the work was beautiful and we'd recommend him."

"Estimator arrived when expected. I was very impressed by his professionalism and knowledge. While I did not choose Nolan's for the deck which is my immediate need, I will most likely use them for the interior work."

"We recently had the exterior of our home painted and are thrilled with the end result! As homeowners for over 30 years, the quality, skill and professional manner by which Heiler Painting completed our project was our very best experience compared to many other painting contractors. We were very cautious when searching for the best contractor to paint our home due to the magnitude of the project. We were quickly impressed with Apostoli s character, his integrity, great knowledge, skill-set and his approach to providing us with a long-lasting job to beautify and protect the outside of our home. His consideration and dedication created a wonderful result. Apostoli fulfilled his promises and exceeded them! Led by one of Heiler s foremen, Craig, his crew arrived every day at 7am and worked productive and consecutive long days until the project was complete--something very rare with contractors today. We were most impressed with the crew s attention to detail when prepping and painting surfaces, in using the very best and proper products for the various surfaces on our home and cleaning up our property at the end of each day. Our communication with Apostoli, from estimating to the completion of the project, exceeded our expectations! We are very happy with our decision to use Heiler Painting and have also contracted them to paint our home s interior soon. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND HEILER PAINTING TO ANYONE WHO DESIRES BEAUTIFUL + PROFESSIONAL RESULTS AT A FAIR PRICE!! A+++/5 STARS! Our very highest rating!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Satin paint is generally considered a better choice for woodwork—including trim, baseboards, cabinets, and doors—than flatter finishes like eggshell or matte. Its soft sheen enhances architectural details and stands up well to frequent cleaning and daily wear. Compared to eggshell and matte finishes, satin is more durable for high-touch areas because it is less porous and doesn't absorb dirt as easily. Matte finishes, in particular, are prone to scuffs and are harder to clean, making them less practical for surfaces like doors and cabinets.

Painted decks typically require a new coat about once every ten years. In between new coats, it's best to maintain your deck by regularly removing debris, washing it down with non-abrasive cleaners, and staying ahead of structural issues, such as loose boards and rotting wood. In some cases, painting a small section of your deck affected by damage or the sun can lower your costs and workload.

Whether to paint or stain a deck depends on your personal preference for appearance and budget. Stain provides a natural look with a range of undertones, is typically less expensive, and may only require one coat, but it does not last as long as paint. Paint offers a sleeker finish with a virtually unlimited color palette. Both options will protect your deck from outdoor elements like rain, snow, and general wear and tear.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.
