"Mr. Wolffe was given the impossible task of restoring our 30 year old Saltillo tile flooring including replacing some of the tiles. The job took much longer than expected but was still performed within the estimate. It was not easy to find a tile professional familiar and willing to work with Saltillo tiles. We are delighted with the quality of Mr. Wolffe's work and grateful to have found him. Bob and Claude Poole, Oley, PA."

Small jobs welcome

"Working with Michelle was easy. We hired her to do a new tile job, in a large walk in shower. We discussed the plan 2x, both in person, so we had no surprises prior to her starting the job. She arrived each day at the time she said she would. The job was done timely, and efficiently. We are incredibly happy with her work, and would hire her again for any tile work that needed to be done."

"The work was done on time, in budget and it looks Excellent! We had our kitchen counter top tiled, as well as a tiled back splash in an older kitchen, along with a new sink. The work done was above my expectations."

"Robert is a multi-faceted individual. He did our interior painting and fixed our ceiling down in our base that was destroyed by water. Also fixed the ceramic tile in my kitchen that was damaged. His rates are reasonable and he does a wonderful job. I would definitely hire him again."

"Professional and timely. The marble in the powder room was awesome, very shiny and even cleaned the grout. The kitchen tile was cleaned and grout had some permanent stains so spot color sealant was used. Overall, it looks great but would have requested the entire grout be color sealed. A clear sealer was used. Our grout had not been professionally cleaned, sealed for 10 yrs. They didn a great job and would use again."

"What an amazing job they did! I absolutely love my new porch. He kept me informed every day, making sure he was fulfilling my request. A very nice, professional, yet personable man. Always cleaned my yard at the end of each day. I would highly recommend you call him first before anyone else."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile over existing shower tiles, but it's better to remove the old tiles first for the best results. Tiling over existing tiles requires a clean, level surface and proper adhesion. If the old tiles are in good condition, you can roughen the surface to improve adhesion. However, removing the old tiles ensures a smoother, longer-lasting finish and prevents potential issues down the line.

Silicone caulk shouldn’t be used in place of grout because each material serves its own purpose. Thanks to its flexibility, silicone caulk is good for sealing around the perimeter of tiled floors, where movement and expansion might occur. However, grout is more durable, making it a better option for the joints in between tiles, which need to withstand constant weight and foot traffic.

Altering the layout of your bathroom will make a big difference as moving or adding plumbing quickly inflates your total bill. While you can recoup more of your cost (in home value terms) by adding a bathroom, rearranging the layout won’t affect your home’s sticker value. However, strategic placements that allow more light or better flow may increase buyer interest.

To ensure an even and unbending surface to lay tiles on, you’ll typically need to put a subfloor under a tile floor. Fiber cement backboards are the most common choice, but using plywood is also possible. Don’t neglect this step, or you could risk water damage and grout or tiles prematurely cracking or crumbling, especially in an area with high foot traffic.

Deciding between using a shower pan or tile will likely come down to the shower’s design. You can learn how to install a shower pan liner, but it has a standard look similar to most other showers, though there is some flexibility for material and color choices. Tile, on the other hand, can be customized and is set directly into the shower base. However, a shower tile floor is more difficult to install than a shower pan.
