"I had a problem with my crawlspace. The house had wood damage and needed a new sump pump. Jimmy gave me an estimate in a timely manner and explained everything that had to be done. He was honest, reasonable, and felt very comfortable with him to do the job. He was very knowledgeable about crawlspace repair and so glad we called him. He made all repairs using pressure treated lumber, scrape sprayed foam insulation along the damage floor joists, and repaired some floor joists. When he was done, he sent me a before and after pictures to show that he did the work. He also took my brother to the crawlspace and showed him everything that was done. If you are looking for crawlspace repair, please give Crawlspace Services NEPA a call! Thank you Jimmy Castro !! You did a great job!!"

"Everything was as promised and customer service worked with me to alleviate my concern of pre-payment. No complaints. I’d probably go to 5 stars except that I haven’t fully checked for changes in energy consumption to know if it was the right solution. I know that the price was significantly less than other quotes!"

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Insulating an unheated garage can still be worth it. For instance, insulating an attached garage can help with heat loss from your house in general, and it can also make it easier to store electronics in your garage without worrying about them being exposed to extreme temperatures.

If you use your detached garage as a workspace, insulation can still make a difference. Plus, you can use space heaters and a window unit AC to help condition the space while you work without installing heating.

You should not put fiberglass insulation in basements, since fiberglass is known to trap mold and mold is more commonly grown and produced in basements. You should also avoid placing insulation near water heaters, oil burners, or other hot appliances. For more information about the best and worst places to install insulation, consider hiring an insulation professional.

Exposed ductwork can sweat just like ductwork placed behind walls, sometimes even more so. Ductwork sweats—like a cold drink on a hot day—because of a temperature imbalance between the air in the duct and the air in the room. In a crawl space or wall, this temperature can equalize faster due to the small space but in lofts and open rooms, that wouldn’t happen as quickly. Many people insulate their ducts for this reason.

Blown-in insulation works, but only for unfinished attics. Also, it isn’t the longest-lasting nor the most effective option. For better options, look into spray foam insulation or natural fiber batts. They typically have a longer lifespan, better heat resistance, and stronger sound-proof abilities. Spray foam insulation costs about $1.25 to $1.50 per square foot, but can go up to more than $4 per square foot. Fiber batt pricing varies depending on the material.

The most affordable way to insulate a garage involves choosing cost-effective materials like fiberglass, which comes in batts or rolls and is relatively easy to install. You can often install this type of insulation without needing to add drywall, which helps reduce costs. While a DIY approach might seem cheapest, hiring a professional installer can be highly cost-effective. Experts can accurately determine your garage's specific insulation needs and ensure the best results for your investment, often using batt insulation for the bulk of the project.
